Hey guys!
i'm trying out for a band next week. they are a great band, and i have wanted to be in for a long time.

They need a bassist, and another vocalist. I am both.

Long story short, my "tryout" is next week, though i'm quite confident, and you'll see why now. The band has yet to have a "real"bassist since they began last year. They have a decent lengthed song list. I have five of their songs. I figured i would get the root notes, learn those, then try to spruce them up. Problem? In studio, they turned the bass OFF on most of every song except one and part of another. So i'm going to have to make my own lines. Which wouldn't be a problem, but my tryout is next week! But i know the songs by heart, and i'm not at all frustrated by this.

I think i'm just going to use basic 5,3,1, 0 frettings on the songs. Easy enough. I won't be able to practice with the band, unless i invite the rythm guitarist, who lives down the road, to my house. I don't know if he knows the lead parts though because they have very experimental guitar lines and both guitarists play WAY different parts and sound Amazing.

So give me so tips on what to do?

I'm also going to, maybe, play piano on one song.
So at one point, i will be singing, playing piano with one hand, and "finger-tapping" a sustain note on my bass. Easy!?!?!?!

thanks for reading!

Sounds like fun, good luck. You didn't mention the style of music, but I'd think triads (5-3-1-0?) are fine for an audition as long as you groove with the band/drums while... triad-ing? If you can do that and sing well?.. you're in if you want to be. Unless there is other baggage you're not mentioning!

Tips? Be yourself, be confident and be on time. Oh yeah, play well and SING well!
