Please be Objective and Be Nice;

I like to bring my GF with me to auditions, she has a high level business presence and does a better job of talking about me and the opportunity than I do.

Good or No Good? if you say no good, why?

nope.....a lot of guys will not be comfortable and clam up around them, and this is the time when you need everything to be clear, focused and concise....think of it as a job interview....

No. Think about it, if you were the employer and someone brought their GF in, and she did all the talking for that person, wouldnt you just think that was weird?

By using the term Yoko Ono, you already know the answer.

If a grown man brought his girlfriend to an audition, and let her do the talking for him, I couldn't take him seriously. I prefer to deal with musicians, not their girlfriends/wives/etc.

However, I might make an exception for a female who auditions for a sense of safety. But, if she brought her boyfriend/husband to all the rehearsals, then it's an issue.

It's good that you posed the question, it demonstrates that you can think act and communicate on your behalf.

I also thought I'd mention that the girlfriend in Spinal Tap also had a high-level business presence and did a good job of talking up David St. Hubbins.

If you were auditioning with me, I'd be more inclined to hire the GF & tell you "Thank you for your time..."

She "does a better job of talking about me and the opportunity than I do."

Go solo. You're using her as a crutch. You need to learn how to talk about yourself, and like playing bass, the only way you'll get better at it is practice, practice practice. Besides, in an audition, your playing is going to do the talking for you. You'll get the job or not based on that. If they reject you because of your personality, then maybe you wouldn't have fit in that group to begin with.

PS. I used to be very shy and also had a hard time communicating. As John Cleese once said after being turned into a newt by a witch, "I got better".

Should you bring your girlfriend to a job interview? Of course not.

Should you bring your girlfriend to an audition? See above.

Hmmm, guess it's a NO.

I have another important audition this week and I just hate auditions. You know, were are looking for a pro level bass player, must have great stage presence, team player, sense of humor ect.

All those things are relative to thieir standards.

Thanks guys, I get it and I agree. I won't be bringing my GF to represent me.I guess it was a dumb idea.

TS, heres what you should do. Think of all the questions he could ask you, and think of your answers before hand. Now I dont know the gig, but Im sure questions like, "How long have you been playing, who do you play with, what are your qualifications?" ect will show up

Not to be an ass, but I think it's time for some self confidence and also learn how to remove "Huh" and "I don't know" from your vocabulary

Never! On another note my wife was making some comments on my band a few weeks ago little things like how i work hard on getting the gigs etc and do all the PR and how the guys should do this and that. I looked at her and said.. "Are you pulling a Yoko??? She cracked up...we both did it was a great moment. But to answer your question..No...you are experienced...own it!
