Auditioning for a band

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone I need some help with this. I'm auditioning for a band, but it's my first time so I don't really know the routine that happens or anything. Am I supposed to just listen to their songs and learn the bass by ear and then jam out those songs with them? Or do we get together and they show me what they are doing in their songs then I come up with something and then we jam? I'm not sure what to do to prepare for it. All help is greatly appreciated!

Keep your pants on. You have no idea how many auditions I've blown because I...uh... nevermind.

Each audition is different. If it's a cover band, find out what their set list is, and tell 'em you'll learn 3 or so specific songs. If they're originals, typically it's the same if they send you mp3s. However, if the originals are really complex, they shouldn't expect that many out of you. If they haven't recorded anything yet, just show up and learn a song or two there.

Good luck.

It's okay to ask them what they are expecting of you so you can be prepared. As much as anything else, it might be just seeing if you click with the vibe of the band.

First audition... be prepared. Show up with a Fifth of Whiskey and a personalized shot glass for each member of the band. Dont forget the drummer, and make sure the singer's is extra fancy (they like it that way). After walking in the room commence pouring shots for everyone, except yourself, you get yours after you jam the first song. You'll immediately be accepted into the band.
