Back in the saddle?

Well some of you here might of read my post a week or two ago on my saga of getting bumped out of a country band i worked my butt off to get into. If not its Ok.. i'm over it.

I talked to a guy a week ago from another country band south of me who have been around for years. This band has been around for near 20 years and the drummer who contacted me said he was in it for 11 years and left for a few and is now back and wants to move the band in a fresher selection of music. They play alot of animal clubs ,fairs etc have a manager , good gear, PA, lights etc.He told me the bass player was too old and stuck in the mud and they would call me to set something up.

I didnt get a call for over a week untill i was ready to go home from work last night and they called wanting to know if i could make last nights practice. It was short notice but i hussled and went there. Its a 1/2 hour drive to the guitarists house and another 20 min drive to the practice spot so we car pooled over. I met the players.. lead is good decent picker great singer, Drummer is good sings well also great harmonies. They also have an old guy who plays double pedal steel which was super cool and he's a great guy. Overall i didnt know alot of their songs ..alot were old standards etc but the ones i did went well and i jumped in on the ones i didnt. I did good for not knowing i was going to try out and coming straight from work.
I was basicly offered the job at the end of the night. They have a couple of gigs and loose ends to tie up with the old bassist then i'm in. I practice again next week and we are working on a new songlist. I got compliments on my playing, guitarist said it was nice to have a driving bassline behind him ..he liked that. Drummer said i picked up songs i never played or knew fast and was tight with him. Pedal player said i was good great ..tone.

This group gigs quite a bit and travels all around regionally so thats a bit of stretch on the home life but as the leader said gigs are getting tougher to get and 2-3 a moth would suit him as well as me. Im not going to get all up over this yet but so far so good. It nice to be wanted and in a band (i think ) again

excellent! congrats!

isn't it great how, when things seem their darkest, that some new great thing pops up?

The same with me. I had 2 years of frustration playing with some mediocre musicians who were also a bunch of ignorant tools.

Then I move to a new city and BAM, I'm in the biggest, most popular band in the area. Just like that. And all the crap I went through becomes a distant memory.

Nice feeling, huh?

Glad to hear about your new opportunity! It sounds really good and I understand you not wanting to get too excited yet!

So I will!

Thanks guys...yes it feels good. I dont know about you but since i was let go by the other band i have had no motivation to practice even scales or to jam much to CD's etc. I go down to my shop/studio and pluck around start to think about how i got screwed and put my bass on the stand and go make a drink, watch T.V. or go play with my daughter.

When i am in a band i'm stroked and motivated to improve learn the setlist and drive to be the best i can be for each performance. I got home pretty late and still thru a CD in my trainer to hear the bassline of a song we covered just to hear it against what i played with them. We shall see..so far so good.

Congrats on the new gig. I read your old post, and you definetly weren't treated right.

Keep us posted when you play your 1st gig
