Band audition tomorrow...which bass to take?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got an audition for a classic rock band tomorrow afternoon. My main player is an MTD KZ4. Would it seem odd to show up to the audition with this bass or should I one of the Classic Vibe Squiers I bought this week? Or would they think I'm not professional enough if I bring the Squier (I think the basses are awesome, but it's somebody else's first impression I'm talking about).

Why only one? I'd bring the MTD and the 50s P, if you got that one.

Those MTDs are awesome, but IMHO they don't look the part for classic rock. Also those Squier are a cut above anything else in that price range.

I will freely admit I am a little biased towards the Squier, my VM completely changed my view on them, the new ones at least.

I got the 60's P. The sonic blue one. I love that bass. I agree that the MTD doesn't really look right for classic rock. I also have a Spector Legend that's being worked on tonight, and I might have that back before the audition. That's another option.

if you can bring all three and ask them what they would prefer, band leaders always like versatile players who are willing to work with what they want

Well that's a thought. But if you were going to just take one, which one would you take?

Id go with the spector if you can, if not go with the MTD, they WILL think you are unprofessional if you show up with only a Squier, its bs but unfortunately its the reality

Yeah that's what I was afraid of even thought the Squier will fit and sound the best with what we're going to do.

Sounds like you just answered your own question with that statement.
The option to do with that in mind is to keep one of your extra basses in your car and have it available, but out of site, for the time during the audition when you talk with them and can offer different ideas for a bass sound to compliment their group's sound.

Just a thought.

I would think that your playing matters more to them than what brand of bass you bring. Unless you bring something really outlandish looking, like a Wishbass, I doubt it's a big deal. Just bring whatever bass you're most comfortable with.

Let us know how it goes!

Okay, I'm back from the audition. They want me to join! Yay!

Took the Squier P and the MTD Z bass. Ended up using the Squier and it just killed. Perfect for what we're doing. Thanks everybody for helping out I really appreciate it.

No problem. I get that a lot on here. Not in real life very much though. Thank God.

Im sure that it was your playing more than your bass that made an impression
