BAND DRAMA!!! Ever contimplated leaving a band to save another members "face"?

Sign in to disble this ad
We've been having a real identity crisis, basically since day 1.

I joined this existing cover band back in Feb. They had fired their bassist and their lead singer. Hopes were to improve the band. We hired our lead vocalist in April or so and were gigging for May.

Almost immediately the crap started. Is he the singer we want? Is his stage show good enough? Blah, blah, blah....

Things came to a head Thurs night. Truths by another member were expressed re: the singers supposed issues. I think I've come to the conclusion that, in order to save this singers reputation, and my own friggin' sanity, I need to walk. Let it all dissipate and pretty much die.

I'm 40. I do this for shats and giggles and cash. Not for headaches.

Why would you quit to save someone else's face? If they're gonna lose face, it's their own d*mn fault.

It sounds like you're talking more about killing the band off, then just quitting yourself, unless I'm confused about something. I don't see how you quitting helps the singer, anyway.

The singer has been maligned pretty much from the start and I am just tired of the same conversations about him not being the guy. I like him as a person, and he can sing fine but he will always be micro scoped by the other members and I just feel it's unfair - to him and to the rest of us.

So, rather than have this guy bashed about, or even outright fired, I'm probably going to leave and let them sort themselves out. I just want to play, have fun, and make some cash. I really don't have time for the drama which has pretty much sucked the enjoyment out of playing with these guys.

I would leave the band because of the insecurities and immaturity of the other band members.

Just a thought...

You take the singer and put a different band together and have fun.

Bands ALWAYS have some kind of drama going on. Some more than others. Nature of the beast. The next will be the same but different.

+1

if you've got issues with members bashing the guy, bring it to a head, call for a band meeting to discuss your feelings and intentions....get it over with and get by it AS A GROUP. youll all be better off . if there are folks leaving, it just wasn't meant to be.
FWIW, YMMV, IMHO all applies

it's just frikin amazing how no one wants to talk about their feelings and try to work things out anymore. Seems like it is easier just to badmouth people behind their backs.

It's hard to explain. I am of the mindset now that playing out is for fun and cash. All the other tripe is a waste of time. I did a fill-in gig 3 weeks back with a group of really cool people...no egos, no attitudes, no crap. We hit the stage, played the tunes, struck the gear, got paid, had a good time/laughs, went home. So easy.

I guess I have reached that point that all gigs need to be this way. As for helping the singer? What's the point in tearing him down? He'll be fine and will actually be better off.

I think you answered it in your first post. You need to leave for your own sanity. Like you, I've reached the age where if it's not fun, why am I doing it? There are situations out there where you'll be happy. Keep looking till you find one.

My 2¢
