Band making $15.62 PER SECOND

Sign in to disble this ad
I wonder how many of us will refuse to play ''lame'' bass lines for a band even if they make $15.62 USD per second...108, 000, 000 per year...

U2's salary: USD 108,000,000 per year - Salary Income Money

I'd have no qualms playing in U2. At all.

I for the life of me cannot understand why U2 is so reviled....sure the basslines are simple-ish, but damn if the other extreme (jerkin off a thousand notes on the neck every 4 bars) doesn't bore me to tears. Gimmie a solid song and a solid bassline and I more than happy. Clayton does just this.

Didn't realize U2 was reviled around here. With or without you is such a classic bassline. Sure it's simple, but it makes the song. I don't get the root note hatred. When it is called for it totally works. Sure, if you're playing roots in a punk band and totally drowned out by distorted guitars, that's another story. But hating on U2 basslines is like saying a guitarist should never play chords.

One of the world's top rock bands of all times, I'd like to hear who's above playing for them. Can see not liking them; I know a lot of people who don't. But those boys are rolling in it!

Everyone has his price. I would gladly play that music daily for that salary as most right-minded people would. It might be boring at times, but seriously what job isn't?

Adam is the coolest guy in the band, he is the most down the earth, yeah and not totally sure why anyone would hate on U2, i don't listen to there music, but nothing about them is offensive to me. Catchy songs in a way that they aren't completely cheasy.

U2 are a great band and very successful, and they work for it and are the real thing. Even better than the real thing!

Bass lines in their songs are exactly what they should be. Complicated for the sake of being complicated is boring. Ask Ringo!

U2 has some great songs, why the hate? Geddy Lee would not work for AC/DC. Likewise Cliff Williams would be a terrible fit for Rush. Don't hate the player for serving the song and the band.

Even thought the salary is attractive, I'd take the gig just so I wouldn't have to lug gear to shows.

I got to agree on simple bass lines, less-is-more tway of thinking. In my 5 piece band I am always tempted to walk, add fills, play a triplet, etc. But after spending the last few days in the recording studio and listening to how busy the music already is, I am glad that I stick my minimalist approach. I'm sure in a duo and trio its a lot different, but when you've got more than that all the movement can ruin a song's dynamics.
