Oh yeah!! this is a nice, diplomatic and probably very effective solution here... "outta sight, outta mind.." kinda deal where the "temptation" of those extra things is no longer in the band's equation. Those guys need to show come committment.. buying & maintaining your own gear shows a certain level of seriousness. Remove the stuff immediately, or announce very short deadline to remove it.

that's a vintage es-175 and it needs to be only in your hands or in the hands of trusted loved ones. i have many friends but from experience i've learned better and have come to realize that they do pretty dumb disrespectful things. take it away before anything horrendous happens. I've been in situations where i've needed to borrow gear due to my gear failing but i've always bee careful and grateful. many other people are not the same.

Try this on 'em:

"It's time for you guys to get your own equipment and show a commitment to the band. We feel like you're taking advantage of us. So don't come to practice until you have your own gear."

That should take care of it one way or the other.

I finally took the es-175 home with me yesterday
The singer didn't show up to practice yesterday so I just took it home. Now I just need to find the time to take it to the shop and get it fix, or restored if I can afford it
After that, I'm keeping it at home with me.

Thanks to all you guys who have given me your input

Good for you on making a move. Hopefully the guy will decide to actually get his own stuff. Either that, or he will just fade away, and you'll realize it wasn't meant to be.

The first band I was in was some friends I just started playing with. When we started it I just had a bass and a tiny bass amp that couldn't hold up in practice, er rehersal? lol, not really at this point... anyways, I started using the guitarists bass amp as he used to play bass. Sometimes I used his old bass too. But after about 4-6 months I bought the amp off of him. I can't really remember if it was his idea or mine... probably his, but I liked the amp a lot so I paid him $200 for it. I still use it to this day (4 years later), and I still really like the amp. I can't see myself without it anytime soon.

I have a feeling I will be one of those players who plays the same equipment for 20 years I still love my amp and my bass. They definitely aren't the nicest on the marker, far from it, but I just love the feel of them.

This is about commitment. Tell them if they really want to go semi pro, they've gotta put blood, sweat, tears, money and commitment in to it. Tell them this quite brutally, but not with anger.
Tell them if they're serious, they've gotta get their own gear.
A confrontation is needed, and don't say it like you want to kick them out of the band, but don't let them think you won't.
