I'm sure all these questions are driving people crazy - if so, sorry - I just have a few more:
It seems to me that you'd have to be crazy not to be displaying your band name in some way that's so in your face that anybody seeing you couldn't help but to know the name of the band that's playing at that moment. If this is true, that makes me crazy, currently.
Would you guys mind telling me what you do, or whether you think it makes a difference, do you have a banner, where do you get them made, just any info and/or comments on this would be greatly appreciated. Just as I was typing this I remembered "The Beatles" on Ringo's bass drum. I want those next morning hungover people to know who they saw the night before, instead of them telling somebody "you know, that band with the chick singer, blah blah".
Thanks

And yes, I have helped roll up the banner many a late Friday/Saturday night. |

of course, i am not just a random bar patron. so i am probably not in the target banner demographic. |

Ok, this is good to know. That's why this forum is here, to learn stuff. I'm inclined to agree with you and just looking at Homebrew's ^ - that looks sweet.
Going a bit O/T - what about drum risers? Would you own one, and use it at any gig where there was room to use it? I know, personally, I love watching a good drummer if I can see them - that's entertainment to me.

| | | | riser? that's production, not something you should concern yourself with, unless you want to own a staging company.
banner=lame. (yes, i've been in bands that used them when i was a kid. hated it. same thing as between every tune saying your bands name, buy our cd, sign our mailing list etc.)
come on, people will look for all that if they want it. otherwise, it is just annoying.
basically, it's just amateur imho, and makes you look that way. |

Other than that we'll just keep doing what we've been doing, and making sure the music kicks major ass.

How about stenciling the PA mains grill cloth with the band's name with florescent white paint? Put some small blacklights out front and everyone will see the band's name, no matter what the club lighting is. It doesn't have to be a huge display, just something that gives some visibility. I've seen some small blacklights that fit into regular bulb fixtures.
We used to use quite a few percussion instruments on some tunes so we had a suitcase with the band name visible on it and kept it in front of the drum kit. Drummer didn't use front heads. |

Or maybe get the logo cut metal, lucite, etc., paint it and then and mount it to the PA mains and couple of other speaker boxes.
Stenciling the name on the side of speaker cabs, drum, guitar or rack mount cases, etc. could help also.

I know I'd be taking some risk of lowering the value of the case, but big deal (and it might even come off). Then do the "accidentally on purpose" placement of them, where it's visible to the audience - it gets the job done, and as a side bonus, it kind of makes your band look bigger than you really are, from an image standpoint. Plus the rest of the band knows you must be really committed to this band, for whatever that's worth.

The people that think it's amateur looking haven't a clue.
The Rolling Stones don't need banners.
I can't begin to tell you how many bands I've seen, and left NOT knowing their name.
Even friend's bands, that I know all the player's names.
Ask the bartender. Huh? |

| | | | Whomever said that banners are amateur, obviously hasnt been out to see alot of punk and hardcore bands. Ive seen new and established acts use them. Alot of bands use banners, especially when they dont have the 50 million dollar touring machine behind them that the stones have. My personal favourite, is the band NOFX, who last i saw had a banner up, that was about 2 foot by 4 foot, which is tiny. hilarious but tiny. |
