So...as ever...a band I'm in is looking for a name. I freely admit that we are either too creative for our own good, or not creative at all.
It's also quite possible that we're too close to the situation. What we find epic falls on blank stares when we tell it to friends and family.
So, I'm reaching out.
We're an alternative rock band. Plain and simple...maybe with a little funk and punk mixed in.
We really want a short, sweet, concise name that conjures an image of the music when you hear it. As we're just starting out, a band name in the weekly rag should reflect a little on the type of music.
For example, we can't call ourselves Mutilation or Unicorns.
I'm hoping to get ideas from fellow TB'ers. I'd like to get something original. Something that I can Google ( _____ Band) and not get a few hits for other bands on the first page. Something that I can register on Myspace.com/______ and Facebook.
In return, I'll try to pay it forward with my ideas.
This is a free exchange of ideas. If anybody likes a name they see, ask the original poster for permission, claim it here, and then own it online.
Some ideas that we have that stick for whatever reason, but aren't 'the one':

One band I was in was called Madsong. I though it was pretty cool. We broke up a while ago. |

But I'll leave that on the table for someone else.

If you have something that you truly think is "epic," I would suggest you use that instead of relying on what friends, family, and TBers think.
But. I'll try to think of some ideas.
Good luck! |

But nobody 'got it' without a lengthy explanation. Also, too many S's. Once I started saying it like a flamboyantly gay man, I couldn't get it out of my brain. |

They had a name that evoked a bit of mystery and left you wanting to know more, very catchy and I still remember it all these years later! Judge Crater ... (check it out) http://www.prairieghosts.com/crater.html
It will do the number one hit thing on Myspace (Judge Crater Band) and the web domain name Judgecrater.com is still available (as of today anyway) ... |

Is there a decent website or database, or even a good thread here on TB that addresses this? I have seen a couple of websites that have band name generators, and they are just horrible, like random words and pairings from a dictionary.
Any ideas?

Some of those from the '60's and '70's are absolutely irrelevant...long since dead...but some joker threw them up on Wikipedia and are #1 hits on Google.
...Like Rush. Great name. Too bad those lousy Canucks stole it first. |

Calamity Man
Milo Talon (a Louis L'Amour book)
Iron
Rivers West (a Robert Frost poem, I think)
were all vetoed, and the singer came up with:
Help I'm Alive
We're going to try it on for a bit and see how it fits. I've attached two very preliminary logos.
Thoughts?
