Band never available for practises

I'm 15, in a band and I seem to be the only person who has the time to practise. It's really annoying because the others are good musicians but our guitarist's parents are really strict nd make him study and everyone else has other clubs and hobbies. I play football but that takes up hardly any time needed for practising. I really want to go somewhere with the music but others just use it as more of a "hobby".

success = aptitude + attitude

Find other like-minded players and move on

yes, move on. In a band, everybody has to be committed equally (or almost). We recently fired our singer because he was not available enough. Good decision ; we found a better one.

awesome advice here on TB. Theyre right man, at your age dedication should be found by the boatload... when I was your age my band literally was my life. Just find some new dudes.. i guarantee that you will.
I just went through the same thing last night when I turned down a position in a new band because they only practice once a week for two hours. My old band rehearsed about 4-5 times a week for 3-5 hours each night..... the result? we were pro level tight in like a month..... these guys have been together almost a year and are sloppy as hell.

Agreed, it`s time to move on.

In regards to the post I quoted I can say from personal experience that this isn`t always the case. One band I was in last summer only practiced once a week and within two months we had gotten a solid setlist of around 50 songs down cold and to perfection... that said, most of the guys I was playing with were in their 40`s and had been playing most their life so learning 5-7 songs a week was nothing.

the guitarist in my band, he's 15 and INCREDIBLY talented.

his parents, on the other hand, prefer to have him locked in his room all day. i feel ya on that one.

I'm with you OP. The band I got picked up by rarely ever practices and it seems that all the other members always have something better to do. That's the #1 reason I'm on the hunt for a new band. I'll continue to play with the current band on the rare occasion that they do practise, but I'll be gone once I find a new band that's actually serious.

I don't see why a band needs to reherse 4-5 times a week....were those guys really that bad at remembering how the songs went? Talk about burn out. I'd be so sick of playing my own stuff, and would wonder why the band isn't spending their time playing out.
A band that reherses one a week...perfect! None...awesome! The real place you get tight is onstage working the crowd, working your set.

Either way, music has to be exciting for everyone. So time to move on if it doesn't provide what you want.

at your age you will find that most have not found what course they are on.....i'd stick around while i looked for a side project or another band.....but keep working hard on your stuff....your dedication is the only thing you can control, and it sounds like you have the drive your band mates lack

I'm not saying everybody should practice that much but the more you play together the tighter u are. Also consider the writing process. .......

Yeah, but did they have gigs lined up?

I could see that when you first got together, but after that, if you're playing weekend, twice a week for a couple of hours should cover it. If you're real organized, everyone should be practicing at home and pretty much get by with one 2 hour a week rehearsal.

If they're gigging, maybe you could have help tighten things up and made some money?

I'm just sayin'....

That's ridiculous. I take it no one did any homework.

At your age, you are going to meet many people who will try the music thing. Many of them will lose interest, some of them will keep going past high school to pursue their goals and dreams. While your mindset to practice is admirable, perhaps the others in the band just don't give music the priority that you have given it.... in which case they will likely leave the band before you do. I would never tell you to quit, you have to follow what your heart tells you. Eventually you will find other players who are on the same page as you are as far as dedication is concerned.
