| 1.) Wherever you play, find a college, or busy street. Hand out 100 free cd samplers with your show schedule inside. We used to do that. It took forever to burn them, but it got the music into their hands. No one is going to come out if they've never heard you.
.) We would do an acoustic set in the area. Maybe on a street corner, or cafe. Whoever wasn't playing handed out the flyer.
.) Have an email list at every show. Send out emails for important gigs.
.) you don't want to over-saturate. We used to play 10 gigs in Philly each month. It took a while to realize..10 people to 10 shows, or 100 people to 1 show. It really doesn't work this way, but it drives the point home.
.) Gig swap. I open for you in front of your crowd, and you open for us in front of our crowd.
.) Benifit concerts. You can get some good press and play for a good cause too.
.) Find the built in crowd. Will your music go over at frat parties? Think of where you can play that already has a crowd. We play at art galleries. Our music fits in and there are people coming to see the exhibit.
.) Colleges. They pay well and they're really into new music.
.) Get people to come back to your site. Once they're there, they've seen it all. Give them a reason to come back. Offer games or interviews or opinions. Something that changes every week. And don't forget to change it.
That's all for now. If i think of any more.... |
