Band Tryouts!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Everyone! Im just posting this because im trying out for a great band soon. I just thought that it would be nice to hear what others on this forum have to say about their music. They are a progressive metalcore group.

Keep in mind these are rough demos.

Thanks!

I found it positively painful to listen to. Taking into account differences in style, taste, age, and just about everything I could think of to consider, I found it positively painful to listen to.

You asked.

Well, I like prog metal myself, but these guys seriously need to tighten it up. Pretty sloppy in places. I couldn't listen to the whole thing. During parts of the song, I thought the drummer and guitards were playing two different songs. It has lots of potential, but the creativity might be exceeding the technical skills of the players. They could use a dose of the KISS principle. A good bass line couldn't hurt, so if you like the music and the musicians, and depending on your experience and desires, I say go for it. What the heck.

Not my cuppa tea at all, but good luck, have fun and don't give up your day job.

- 1 because they ripped their "logo" photo from the superb "Undercurrent" LP by Bill Evans/Jim Hall.

Hey man, everyone has to start somewhere, and nobody starts out sounding great. What counts is if you like it. Good luck with it. Nothing makes us better than playing in a band.

+10

Put some xlnt vocals in there, add some cool bass lines, get the guitars tone to better balance each other. Have fun with it.

Good luck.

I wanted to say this, but resisted. I’m glad you did, and I completely agree.

Although it’s understood that it’s beneficial to play with others, and it’s especially beneficial to play with musicians who are better than you…

I’m not so sure it’s beneficial to play with people who simply don’t know what they’re doing.

Are we all listening to the same band? Granted, the guitar tone is horrible, and there's some time fluctuation, but on the whole I didn't think it was that bad. Maybe there's just that much of a genre-spread with TB'ers... The drummer certainly has worked on his double-bass, and there's some potential for some good lock-in moments if you have the metal chops.

I didn't perceive this, I thought there was some creative subdivision going on. Really, I don't think it would be a bad idea to try out, if I guessed your age by your profile. If you were a 30-something experienced player, I'd say pass, but if you're still in high school or just out of it, this couldn't hurt.

Yes, we're listening to the same band. And that "time fluctuation" thing can really spoil it for a lot of listeners.

To clarify, I believe all the musicians on that track can play, but not together, not on that song. It just started to come apart at the seams one too many times. "Overly ambitious" would be a nice way of putting it.

I agree that if the OP likes what he hears, sees the potential, and thinks he make a positive impact, he should go for it.

They sound like one of the many crappy opening metalcore bands I've seen.

I have seen so many that I sort of think of metalcore as "the crappy opening band genre."
