I just finished some tweaks to my band website Home Page | Auburnhillsband.com. I tried to make it as user friendly as possible but I wanted to get some feedback from this community. How's the design? Does it look alright on your computer? Is it easy to navigate? Does it make sense? Thanks for your time.

| | | | Honestly not bad.. but.. I loaded it in Opera.. I had to scroll to the right see the entire page and it looked like it wasn't displaying correctly then with the links on top..
What I'd suggest, keep the home page minimal. Fit it all on one screen.. Provide easy to find links to the content and dont put paragraph after paragraph of information there.. Provide snippets and links to full articles.
The subpages were good, as they were all to the point and had a purpose.
PS: your version of Secrets is awesome!
PPS: I just listened and really like your other songs, too. |

Also, I wonder if your issue with the screen width isn't so much the browser as it is the screen resolution. My work computer does the same thing where I have to scroll over to see the whole page.

I see the weird left margin as well. When debugging this problem, shrink the width of your browser to match the main content section. Get that visible w/o a horizontal scrollbar
I think you need to think more about who will be visiting your site and how easy it will be for them to find what they're looking for.
If you think somebody who wants to book you will visit, then you should make a bigger deal about your contact info -- not just a small link at the bottom of the page and the social media icons behind the header.
If you want your fans to know when your next shows are, put the next 1-3 on the front page.
I would also slap facebook "like" and twitter "tweet" buttons on your front page -- give your visitors an easy action to click on. It leads to a more direct relationship than simply saying "hey, we're on facebook and twitter".
Overall, a very nice site, though. |

| | | | Thanks you guys for all the feedback. I really appreciate the kind words. What I got from you fine gents is to make the content box centered instead of using absolute positioning. When I was designing the site I built it to a specific screen resolution. People with smaller screens kind of got screwed. I think I could fix that though.
One thing that I wish I could do is get pictures of the band on the front page. It's a little impersonal right now without faces.

They look kind of cellphone-ish, no disrespect. Pretty cool you put the facebook/tweet/youtube buttons on top, good place for that I always thought. Oh, and reverbnation just popped up, cool. Good job!

As mentioned above, on a smaller screen (I'm on an iPhone), your centering falls apart due to use of what appears to be an absolute sidebar.
If I may suggest:
create a div that encompasses the entire page content and give it an id of "center"
Then go to your CSS and add:
#center {
width:700px; /*or whatever*/
margin-left:auto;
margin-right:auto;
}
Then go through and add
margin-left:inherit;
margin-right:inherit;
to everything that needs to be centered.
It works flawlessly for me and eliminates the deprecated <center> tag.

I found the font to be a little strange, but still cool though. May I ask what service you used to create the site?

Edit:
I did some more fooling around and I think I may have gotten it to work. It should center on your browser now.

| | I never worry. I'm fretless! DPA Endorses Audix Microphones | | Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Bay Area, CA | | | I'm on IE, and I also have to scroll over to the right to see most of the page.
I do like the page. It's simple, too the point, and easy to navigate.
The old-school web-designer in me (over 15 years, off and on) doesn't want to like the font, because it is a non-standard "web friendly" font, but it works with your page!
Fix that indenting, and you have a winner!!

| | | It looks great on Firefox but on IE 8 this is what I see. None of your page links show until I scrolled over them. |

Oh dear...IE is a pain. I won't be able to fix it until tonight. Bear with me IE users.
