I play with much younger doodz. They are 30ish. I was surprised when they picked me from their auditions, but 30 is much older that 13.

I was lucky enough to gig when I was 13. As an Air Force brat, we got to play the Teen Club and the CYO dances. When I was 14 we lived with the townies. Played school stuff, the <city> Days festival, and even a couple of weddings. We were all about the same age though. There's always gigs if you know where to look and advertise.

totally see where you're coming from though.
indeed...one of the local bar bands in San Diego (Dottie and the Diamonds) is a group of fairly young men (mid-late 20s I'd guess) with a 50 (maybe 60+) year old female singer...I guess for them it works.

I think if I'm in a bar and see a cover band with a couple 25 year olds and a trio of retirees I'm probably not going to really think it's odd. If I'm at the all-ages venue and see a trio of 19 year olds with a 45 year old lead guitarist though...

old dudes are definitely great to learn from though. Just be aware that older folks have different priorities and there are definitely things I can't do now (at 23) that I could do at 21 because my life has changed just in those couple of years (things like touring)

my friend is just 16 and plays in a band with an 18 yr old drummer and guitarist and like a 40 yr old lead guitarist. that looks odd but they arent bad at all.

A 45 year old asking to playing with a 13 and 14 year old flips up a few red flags for me. He may have worn out his welcome with established musicians. He may be a drunk. He may have drug problem. He may not have any problems but who knows? If I was one of your parents, which I'm definitely old enough to be, I wouldn't say no, I'd say hell no. Forget it. Find the best 4 or 5 guys you know and play and have fun. Fun being the #1 ingredient.

Just go out there and have fun man, soon enough you'll be older swamped in work and wishing you were 14 and your major problems were finding guys to play with. You cant control if people take you seriously or not and you may have trouble booking gigs with your age, just get some guys together and make music don't worry so much about gigging right now. But when the opportunity presents its self to gig make sure your ready to pounce. Good luck!

P.S. 45 year olds in bands with 14 year olds equals weird. Unless like previously posted he is close to your family or is family. IMO
