Banding in College

Okay, so my band has been on hold a few months because college started (a semester ago). Now that we're all fairly familiar with it, how do you go about getting a place to practice?

Anyone have any experience with this? Ideally we'd have a place to lock our gear up, including maybe a drum kit. I was thinking about checking the music area, maybe they have rehearsal rooms with places to keep your stuff. Maybe there'd be a couple hours on a weekend where its open. I mean, as awesome as having my half stack in my dorm would be, I sure as hell don't want to lug it anywhere.

What do/have you fellows do(ne)?

Thanks

Just don't do ANYTHING in the dorms. NOTHING.

You'll get owned so hard.

I used to practice in the dorms. They had a room for crap like that.

The hardest part about being in a band in college for me was that we were all broke.

you could deffinately play on the weekends in your schools music department if it's anything like mine... but storing your stuff would be iffy... i say your best bet is to add a member who's a local.. haha.. or get the drummer some pads and the guitar acoustic and you play through a practice amp.... then the dorms would probably work as long as it wasn't constant.... it'd solve the PA problem too

edit: of course you need your show equiptment for gigs and whatnot but your stack probably makes a decen coffee table... the only one in trouble is the drummer... maybe spread his stuff among members?

Dunno what the situation is for you guys over there. But what my band did was find a run down industrial site, and theres normally a practice space there that doesnt mind you leaving gear there, as long as you pay slightly an theres a chance it might be used by other people as well

hmm...yeah. I'm not willing to trust my gear with anybody. period. unless I'm there.

Lets see what I can scrounge up.

I mean for me and my guitarist, we run into our keyboardist keyboard and out his monitors, but the main issue were having is our drummer.

See if there's a indoor storage area. You could split the cost of the monthly rental.
