In my never ending search for a new band, I was referred to this site by a bassist buddy.
Anyone have any experience with this. I notice they make it
difficult to respond unless you pay 10 bucks a month. Seems
steep.
Anyone use this? Is is worthwhile? Or should I just keep scouring CL?
I signed up about 5 days ago and got one nibble from a
drummer today. That's about it so far.
Hold the press, just got an email for 'new musicians' in my 'area'.
Massachusetts, Boston, Cambridge, Norwood
and Medway. Most looking for drummers. Huh? They don't
seem to match up bassists with guys looking for bassists.
I don't get it. And I am not in striking distance to a Boston
based band.

Generally seem to get more mature responses.
Vancouver it's the Georgia Straight...

anymore. Used to be a great resource.
I got a response this morning from bandmix that looks like it has
great potential. Set list coming, audition/muddle through next week
it looks like. That was the second of two responses.
This may have worked out. I spent 25 mins on the phone with the
guy and there seems to be a lot of common ground.

Yep. I just cancelled my monthly $10.00 subscription to Bandmix.com. A waste of money IMO. I received more responses from local "City Paper" and Craigslist advertisements which are free. |

I think it depends on the area you are in as to whether its worthwhile or not. In my area I would get a couple of emails per week from bands looking for a bass player.

Even with all the BS that you have to wade through to find soimething worthwhile, Craigslist has still been the most successful site for me. |

I found my current band on the site, so it was instantly worth it to me. I also got quite a few offers to join bands, some of which are established. As mentioned, I think it depends on the area. Around here, it seems that most people who are willing to pay for a membership are somewhat driven to find what they are looking for.
There were a few that I sent messages to and didn't get a response, or they said I wasn't what they were looking for (without seeing or hearing me...my profile pic is of my bass)so they were a waste of time.

You can't send e-mails (free accounts) unless you're a paid member. You can be contacted by paid members, of course but I seriously doubt they have a large % of paid members. If it was $10 a year, I'd go for it. But $70 a year??? Are you crazy??!! In addition, for a guy like me, who's into R&B, Funk, Soul, Jazz, Latin.......there's not a whole lot of that happening there. It'll work great for you rocker dudes! 9 out of 10 profiles I see there are rock related!

I've been a nonpaying member for several months now, and I too put my email address (completely spelled out) in the "About" section. They haven't caught on yet.
I have only connected with one person on that site, but he too had used the email workaround. |

| | Hey, what does this knob do? | | Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: New Hampshire | | | As of today, about 1/3 of my leads have come from Bandmix, and 2/3 have come from CL. In terms of quality/seriousness of the respondents, I'd say Bandmix has a slight edge, but I wouldn't want to have to live on the difference. Over the past year, one of the two bands I came closest to wanting to join found me on Bandmix, while the other found me on CL. So, I recommend maintaining a presence on both. |

Most people on there understand that method. |

Never hurts to be on lots of sites because you never know who might hit one of them. On the other hand, ReverbNation has lots more functionality and is free. I've also had good luck with Craig's List. Leveraging online plus real world contacts is just part of the ongoing game for gigs come and go. Good luck! |

Our guitarist (who is my main songwriting partner in the band) found us through Bandmix, so it was most definitely helpful that way. I didn't pay the membership fee, though. I simply posted my email address on the profile. I didn't see the point of paying all that money. Our band's main networking site is Reverb Nation. We also have a Sonic Bids account (that I pay for) to keep tabs on what opportunities are out there. |

All gone. But you haven't disappeared, and now you need to reconnect with other musicians. I'm more of a mind to focus on my own online presence, and put some effort into the band/project site without loosing freshness in my personal online identity. Usually it's just one person in the project who does all the work online. If they ignore themselves, they're shooting themselves in the foot over the long haul. Don't forget number one. |
