I wouldn't waste any more time with the guitarist.

Unless I have missed something, it doesn't sound like gigging or money is what your looking for.

Regardless, I would only invest time with serious, committed, experienced, focused musicians that are on the same page as you.

Good luck

Your guitar player can't play guitar? At all? Does he know any songs you could jam on?

Practice is what you do at home to learn the songs. Rehearsal is getting it down as a band. If someone isn't willing to practice they shouldn't bother to show up to rehearsal. Unless the band is just an excuse to get together for some beers, of course.

He's refusing to practise and your help with learning anything. Let him go. This might be a different story if he were putting in the effort. He's not. Find someone with either the skill and/or the drive to make it work.

How does someone who can't play an instrument get into a band in the first place?

Goom-bye.

Ahem...I'm one of those "guitards" though I never "took over" on bass. I play both and it was a choice to play bass in my current band.

And I do NOT subscribe to theory "A", and with respect to theory "B", the background & knowledge haven't hurt any.

Clearly you're not one of the guitards he was referring to, so no need to take offense.

Geez! He played alone with the drummer...jammed out...drummer called him out...This is a fresh start up. Things are moving forward. I even sent the dude over here to learn about music..no luck!

Peace! Thanks!

+1. No need to be unpleasant, but I'd cut ties with him. He certainly holds no monopoly on his craft. Dump him and find someone who requires less investment and returns more profits.

Things are clearly not moving forward. He's just not that into it. Hence, adios.

There's a reason why he's 49 and knows nothing - he's NOT interested.

He's useless. Move on.

Right on! We have a powerful male vocalist guitar player in place. I played with him last night as a guest at his Sat eve gig...went well there and at our initial GTG Friday afternoon.

Again..thanks to everybody for their input. I learned quite a bit about how to approach such challenges in the future..including how to AVOID them!

Peace!

Yeah, I don't know if we have the answer for that.

I think this guy was a friend of the drummer. But why they wasted any time on this guy in the first place is still a mystery.

Even if he was 17 I would sack him. I can put up with a lot of things with band members, but never laziness. He's just wasting your time. Stick your foot up his ass and send him on his merry way.

Sounds like the guy is a wanna-bee and time waster so cut him loose. Wanting to be in a band and able to play in one takes work, ability and dedication. He has nothing to offer you and if the drummer truely is his friend he should tell him himself.

who cares? this just makes it sound like it's you with the problem.

those are real problems. going off on the guy is not the answer. the majority of people do not deserve to be treated like that. cut him loose, audition replacement.

Agreed, if he doesn't understand that you have to practice in order to play, he wouldn't understand why you would "go off all mental" on the guy.
