what are some good moves to do with a bass while playing live, something that will really make someone say "wow" |

| | | | You could try the old-fashioned "playing really well" and maybe get some wows that way. |

He did this really slow motion swing type of thing where he would like swing around in a half circle kinda motion. He had his bass up reall high to make it work well with the constant motion but it was really sweet looking. He was very active on the stage as well as with his bass playing and it was a smooth but fast motion swiging back and forth and like various angles and curves and such. Okay so that was really hard to explain but hopefully you get the idea. It wasn't so much a running/jumping everywhere kinda thing more of a steady but focused motion of energy on stage.
From the audience perspective I think its really cool too see a very active bass player, if nothing else, just jumping constantly like all those in the mosh below.

I saw story of the year's guitar player throw his guitar to his tech, run and jump onto his half stack and backflip off. I guess it comes down to are you trying to rock or pull off a gymnastics routine. |

| | | Wait for a part where you and the rythm guitarist got easy parts, walk up to each other, and "trade" chords (i.e. you fret his notes, and vice versa). It does look very cool, and distracts the crowd from the lead guitarist/singer if they get too much attention |

| | | | Writhe on the floor like Angus Young. If your song has a cadenza or noise section, take the vocalist's mic stand and rub it across your strings like a slide. If you really want to give them a show, turn up all volume knobs for feedback, and proceed to rip the strings out of your bass. Once unstrung, just destroy it. Make sure you bring a really cheap bass to do this to. I borrowed my friend's sqier precision. |

| | | if the show is really special, try rigging a beater bass with some fireworks on the headstock and blow it to pieces
or, if ur right handed, in the middle of the song, turn the bass to the other side and go lefty
or if u want, u can rig the front of your bass with some laser pointers...
..and finally, although not bass related. Make a "toilet paper gun" using a leaf blower. |

Jaco started the back flips off amps WHILE playing his bass!!!
I head bang and groove with the guitarist,
try working on a solo part where you and the guitarist trade licks.
jump into the crowd (need long cord or wireless)
But great playing beats em all! Just look at the videos of THE OX (John Entwistle of the Who, for those that don't know!) |

| | Banned Moog Artist in Rock/Pop 5th down | | | | | ill probably wow them by putting my bass on the floor, strum open strings, and play with the knobs while kicking on effects and stuff all leading up to a part where i put a slide on both hands and slide up the neck of the bass and a guitar to end the song. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
