Bayou Cafe - Albany NY?

Anyone have any experience with the Bayou Cafe in Albany, NY? Good? Bad? Indifferent?

They are contacting my band to arrange for us to play there in the next month or two.

Yes, we're already booked out into Feb. (not bad for an original band). So, we'd have to find a date that they have free and one that matches when we are available.

Stay on them. Don't let it slip away.

It all depends on what they're offering. We're not going to travel that far for little or no money.

I don't blame you, it has to be cost effective. Stick to your guns on your fee.

My brother's zydeco band has played there a number of times.

I'd have to ask him how the pay was but the fact that they've been back meant it worked out OK. They are from central CT so travel would have been similar for them. Not too many clubs that specialize in Louisiana music in the area (as you know).

I'm also from the Worcester area, Albany is as far west as I'm willing to travel...about 2:30 one way but an easy drive on I-90 just a late trip coming home.

Who's the current Roadkill drummer BTW?

I'm from Albany. I haven't played the Bayou Cafe that I can remember, but some popular local groups play there, so it's probably OK. I see Ten Year Vamp on their site right now, and those guys aren't hurting for gigs. I think their bassist is a TB'er, but I can't remember his screen name. PM me if you do accept the gig. If I'm free that night, I'll come out and support you.

My friend's band played there a couple of years ago... it wasn't a dive. Nice stage, decent amount of space. I don't hang out downtown much these days, so I'm not sure what sized audience you should expect. Are you getting a Fri or Sat night?

At this point, the drummer is nixing the deal. He doesn't want to travel 2.5 hrs for a gig. We do gig quite a bit around here but I think we might be saturating the market and need to branch out a little bit. Not sure if trying to develop a following 2.5 hrs away would be worth it. But we'll have to see. If we do end up doing it, the night will depend on availability on the schedules (theirs and ours).

I checked out their website. It looks like a nice place.

Checked with my brother, his band was paid $600 to play there. Hasn't been for a few years, although he's been asked back.

Oh, BTW, the bass player for Ten Year Vamp is Mendry37. They played there a couple of nights ago.
