Bourbon Street Standards

I'm a singing bassist trying to get back my gig on Bourbon street in New Orleans, so I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread where we name tunes that are must-know standards on Bourbon St. I know there are dozens of players on this thread that have played this mile long strip of naked chicks and cigar smoke.

Cissy Strut - The Meters
Hey Pocky Way - The Meters
Mustang Sally - Wilson Pickett
Roadhouse Blues - The Doors
I Feel Good - James Brown

I'll keep postin' as I think of em.

Greetings from the Northshore

Hey, I live just across the lake. You know you have to do the traditional When The Saints Go Marching In. House of the Rising Sun is not bad either. I'd stop and listen if I heard them on Bourbon!!

Well that's a loaded question......it depends on how old you are, what kind of music you play and how deep you want to go back in time for the classics!

The "Classic" New Orleans songbook is HUGE!!

But here's a few of mine that you can peruse and see if they tickle your fancy:

House of the Rising Sun
Ain't That a Shame
When the Saints Go Marching In
Let The Good Times Roll
Mr. Bojangles
Rockin' Pnumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu
Ain't She Sweet
Time is on My Side
Tipatina
Amos Moses
What a Wonderful World
Iko Iko
Right Place Wrong Time
It's All Over Now
Will The Circle Be Unbroken
City of New Orleans
Smoke My Peacepipe
Born on the Bayou
Battle of New Orleans
New Orleans Ladies
Jambalaya
Lady Marmalade
Marie Leveau
Proud Mary
When the Levee Breaks
The Saints are Comin'
Tangeled Up In Blue
Truckin'
The Witch Queen of New Orleans
