Cover Songs in Drop D That Work

Hey All,

I was wonderiing if you have any cover songs in Drop D that work for you when playing out? We currently have Slither by Velvet Revolver on the set list and are working Animals by Nickleback and Heavy by Collective Soul. We've toiled with the idea of doing an entire Drop D set. We play all sorts of rock covers from the standard Summer of 69 and a bunch of AC/DC to the Darkness and Foot Fighters but tend to lean towards heavier rock. Some I have heard but haven't ran by the guys yet and am wondering how they would go over are:

Girls, Girls, Girls- Motley Crue
Beautiful People- Marilyn Manson
Papa Roach- Last Resort
RATM- Killing in the Name Of
Soundgarden- Black Hole Sun
Queen- Fat Bottomed Girls

Any other good ones you can recommend?

Isn't that half step down or something like that? I am sure it can be played in Drop D but I thought it was a different tuning. It is something we have brought up though. Thanks!

Seether- Remedy
It is really in C# but we have played it in D
It works. I use a 5'er so it didn't matter for me but the GP and singer liked D better

We play Animal, Bad Girlfriend and Slither, but I'm seriously sick of all three. I think the Drop D sound, (that I've heard used so far,) is depressing, and I have tired of it. Slither has me on vocals, and I don't want to sing it anymore, so that one's probably already gone.

He knows that - he was just saying that he thought the suggested song was played with the whole guitar tuned down 1/2 step, same interval between strings as standard tuning.

I like Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden, but always liked Outshined better.

Yeah - I had to learn Slither and Bad Girlfriend for an audition - they wanted me but I passed for a number of reasons. I can see how you could get sick of those songs.

Playing Slither on my 5 instead of drop D on a four was a pain! (for me anyway).

Cover Songs in Drop D That Work

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pretty much any song in E can be transposed down a whole step to drop D. Also any song in D can be played with a low D on bass.

The same goes for Eb, Db, C and B

That's why a 5 string bass is awesome ... transposing keys is simple.
