There used to be a Twin Cities band who covered it pretty well, back when it was "current". They recorded the 1st part, though.

I just did "Stairway..." a couple of weeks ago in an acoustic-folk/electric-rock hybrid band & it went over OK (no dancers).

I saw a band do a cover of Bohemian Rhapsody once. They killed it. I wouldn't recommend it for most bands, though.

Here's my Charlottesville guitar slinging homeboy (and distant D'Errico cousin) playing it with a girl singer he backs. Doesn't seem that hard.

My band plays Freebird, Comfortably Numb, Money, Brain Damage and Wish You Were Here. We also do the ten minute version of Whole Lotta Love.

You can cover anything, if you rehearse it, and make sure it sounds good in rehearsal.

Bohemian Rhapsody?

I'd have to hear it to believe it.

One of our competitors does it (or did it, at least)

I will not comment on it, just share the link:

Where I live there's a local blue grass group called Amanda and the Lost Indians that does a cool cover of Freebird:

I know a band that does a Queen medley that starts with Bohemian Rhapsody, but when it gets to the operatic part they transition into Tie Your Mother Down, to Fat Bottomed Girls, then they return to the end of Bohemian Rhapsody to finish off the medley. It's quite the tasty piece.

Well, if you do do it, and it comes off well, you WILL have the undivided attention of the audience. THEN pull out the best dance tune you've got and QUICKLY order them to the dance floor. Take advantage of every opportunity you have to work the crowd to 100% participation. Merch sales go WAY up!

One of my bandmates wants to do this one. I'm talking him out of it since it would be ridiculously tough IMO and you would have to have great 3 part harmonies to even try it. It would also take a ton of work and frankly I'm too lazy and would rather move on to something else. I've tried to get my band mates to do Another one bites the dust instead because it is much easier and would maybe put people on the dance floor rather than empty it.

Freebird on the other hand. No problem. I've done it for a corporate event where it was requested. One guitar, bass, keys and drummer. Killed it. Keys player was driving the chords. Me and the drummer were tight and had all the patterns down. The guitarist was really good and just ripped it. It was outdoors at a resort and we ended up with a lot of people at the resort hanging out on their balconies listening to us. Biggest applause of the night.

To the OP. If your chops and vocals are good there's no reason to not try it. It doesn't have to peg to original to be entertaining.

If you want to do a Queen song why not Fat Bottomed Girls or Crazy Little Thing Called Love? Those both tend to go over pretty well, and wouldn't require nearly as much work.
