i hate playing covers... unless im getting paid to do it. like being able to pay my rent paid. so today we're at practice and the line goes, "let's work on some of our songs we have a little trouble with then work on some new material" and i thought "awesome, now i can get someone to put some of these riffs i've written together and do something with them."

we spend half a hour on one of the covers we already do and one original..... then the remaining hour and a half working on another goddamn cover, despite i and the singer's protest.

am i wrong to be pissed off?

and just to put it in perspective it was "sugar" by system of a down.... i had to play a whole 6 different notes..... the same 4 for almost 4 solid minutes..... i dont even like the song/band... and to kick it in the ass.. the singer sat out while the rythm guitarist decided he wanted to do the vocals... FML...

agenda for rehearsal should be laid out at the end of the prior rehearsal. that will help maximize your time. unless you are writing new material, rehearsal is not the time to learn the tunes.

You all need to get on the same track or go your separate ways.

I like that idea.

I agree man. Talk it out with them. Make a compromise or something.

I have quite a similar problem with my friends, for me, there's only two reasons to go into a studio
1. rehearsal (mainly covers)
2. make new materials

The more annoying thing for me is that none of the bandmates nail down the repetitions to the cover, it always started out nice, but they always do not remember how many times to repeat this part and that part, and how it ends. They will just simply end somewhere and say "ok what song should we play next?".

I am in the process of communicating my problem/frustration with my bandmates, and I think you should do the same!
