Actually another Covers thread. Sorry.
That out of the way, I've been working with some new people. Mild guitar player that can hold a good rhythm and has a singing voice. A great guitar player, awesomeness through and through. Me (best bassist ever) ok... slight exaggeration... And a beginner/intermediate drummer with a good ear for music.
We've been writing originals having fun, and we've been asked to play a Christmas party. Great. Thing is they want 1/3 of the set to be covers, because its what people like.
Now I was thinking maybe a RHCP tune, a Raconteurs song from the new album, maybe a Christmas song or two. Maybe a Hip tune. Whatever it is, just looking for suggestions.
I was wondering, what would play for 150 drunkards in a good mood? (Thats what the party is by the way.) And fairly, but not only, easy songs. I like to play prog and all, but I don't think this is the venue for it.
So yeah, thanks all. |

The Who - My Generation
It's a really cool song, has easy verses and a funky bass solo. It's also kind of a classic, but it's not played on the radio all the time either.
I figure you should try to put in at least one Who song, depending on how long your set is going to last. |

- Brown Eyed Girl still goes over well for us
- Bad To Bone gets inebriated people making noise
- Honky Tonk Woman - people seem to like cowbells when they're drunk
- Mony Mony can get some booties shaking
- Play That Funky Music can get some booties shaking, depending on the type of crowd
In the world of Christmas,
- Bruce's Santa Claus Is Coming To Town will get some people to smile

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Buffalo | | | Thank you guys, I'm back with a bit more info. It'd be roughly mid-college people, the drunk fun loving ones. So I wanted to do some real recent songs and some old, with as many originals as we can reasonably write, practice and perform in the course of a month and a half. Which, by the way, we have done roughly 3 so far in the matter of ~3 weeks.
Again hijacking my own thread, its is fun working with a singer/songwriter whose actually good! Haha... sorry, but I'm sure many of you know what I mean.
So back on topic, I was actually thinking some of the songs that were suggested. Here's whats caught my eye so far:
any Beatles tunes (we planned on 1)
Beck
Led Zeppelin
Sublime
Fire On The Bayou - The Meters
Stuck in the Middle - Steeler's Wheel
Keep in mind we also only have an hour, but still, you can fit a lot in an hour. Thanks guys, I appreciate it. |
