Dealing with promoters

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking at getting in touch with local promoters once our demo is recorded and wondered if anyone had any advice? Specifially what questions should I be asking? I've been playing in bands for years, but someone else always handled getting gigs - usually badly - e.g one gig I asked if I should bring my amp, got told yes so we ended up with 3 amps on stage, the next gig I got told not to bring mine and we ended up with no bass amp at the venue, so I am keen to go a good job

That's easy.

What bands do you work for? If you have not heard of them, then he sucks as a promoter.

Well, there are a couple of local promoters who have bands I've heard of on their books but one seems to only deal with death metal bands and the other with indie rock bands and we play new wave of british heavy metal-type stuff. Will that work, I mean we don't have enough material yet to play all night so we'd need to get a gig with some other bands.

Go to venues you'd like to play, find bands you think you are similar to, and ask them who does the booking.
