how's this for an email. Singer song writer. Never met. 2 hours away. I just got some MP3s of live guitar beating. Quote:
Hey Dave
Just a follow on from out conversation earlier. I dont want to be putting too much on you, but I really want to hear your workings before Sunday. The three songs that are important are:-
xxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxx xxxxx
I have only booked up for 4 hours and would like to perfect us playing our individual and already worked out pieces together to a level that we all feel confident before we play live.
As you are further away than anyone else It is going to be necessary to send music accross the net with speed and I do have gigs lined up, But will only play them with a band if the songs are learnt and practiced and sent to me to check. We all work differently, and this is the way I have to do it.
I cant just wait til Sunday and hope that you have it alright. Do you understand? I am not meaning to be a pain, and I know we are all busy working and doing other stuff, but if this is to work it has to be done this way.
I will need to here something by Saturday midday, if not then I really would not feel comfortable with performing with you based on only listening to your contribution on the Sunday.
There is a saying, start the way you mean to continue and I really have to do this or else it becomes a stress, something none of us need
If it is too much for you to send by Saturday, may I suggest that you forget playing on Sunday, but work at the songs until you are comfortable enough be able to send me what you have done, and then we can get together and rehearse then we can book some more gigs.
Let me know mate okay what you decide to do Dave
Thanks for your support
| This isn't for a paid gig, ever. Its an open mic night. Can someone give me a reason to be motivated please? |

you can randomly throw a rock out of a bus window and hit a dozen starving singer-songwriters in the UK.. go find one who's more fun (and who lives nearer)

You will be surprised how many of the audience will get into it because they are new to the ride too
P.S. This bloke sounds like a total nightmare, don't go anywhere near him. There are loads of his sort wafting around trying to sound like they are a 'professional'. We all know that they aren't so don't think you'll get anything out of it other than a bad story to tell everyone on Talkbass after the event.

if he's this uptight about a freebie open mic gig , what's next ?
" ok , everyone must wear matching outfits with your name on the front pocket ...
otherwise , don't bother to show up..."
drop the gig ,
the singer sounds like a drama queen , some sort of control freak ...

| | | On top of everything else they are geographically undesirable. 2 hours away is OK for something killer but this doesn't sound killer. |

You have to let other musicians breath within a piece of music, he probably doesnt know this because no one will play with him for too long.

No money, no musical merit, no fun...I'd e-mail him back and say "Thanks for the opportunity, but the description of what you're looking for does not interest me. Good luck with your performance," and leave it at that.

Maybe you should be glad you found out about this weirdness before you got too deep into it ... |

I wrote and said "you're probably right. Good luck" She was too dumb to take offence!
P.S. I printed my own damm shirts with davethebass.com on the pocket! More North London jam nights ahead. |

| | | | Why bother Yeah that a strange email.
I could understand it IF you were contracted to play for a paying band. OR you were a session player and it was needed for some pre recording practice or something... but an open mic nite...sheeesh !!!! |

I've never heard of anyone being so demanding for an open mic night gig before. That was sheer craziness (OCD anyone?) | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
