During? Like with my bass on my shoulder while I'm on stage? No, of course not. I will frequently have a water onstage to swig between songs, though. Immediately before or after, especially if the venue has food? Yes.

During practice, I eat Vietnamese Spring Rolls, and water.

It's healthy and tasty

I couldn't eat during a show. I could have some groupies feed me!! I have had food ordered and ready to eat during a break. That wasn't a good idea either.

During? OMG no... However, we do have some cool gigs at Steakhouses & BW3's.... its hard NOT to eat BEFORE the gig starts....

But During? NEVER! I think it looks bad.

Not during (I've eaten on break twice in the last year and regretted both times) and only certain things I can eat before. With having the bass set right on my stomach/diaphragm heavy foods and I'm cheese funny before I play.

Couldn't this be considered a sub-thread to "Farting during a show"?

not during.

after is probably better, but if there is plenty of time before your set, before is cool. I wouldn't recommend eating right beforehand if A) you sing, and B) you jump around, or C) if you are going swimming

heheheh

No eating solid foods except on break, but I miss doing coffee house gigs where I got free frapacinnos. That rocked.

What I usually go is buy a burger or something before the gig, like a few hours before, and eat half of it. I'll hide the rest away until I'm done loading up my gear after the show and then scarf the other half down.

No food on stage. I wouldn't pay to see somebody eat nor would I expect to get paid for it.

Only thing appropriate during is drinking water, IMO.

Eating? Lots of time the venue has provided a meal as part of pay-out.
Here, this can be moved to "Humor" if necessary:

During a gig at a very upscale restaurant in Sedona AZ, the bandleader told us: "Don't eat lunch! They're going to serve us dinner before we play!"

When I saw the menu during load-in I was drooling!
...Filet wrapped in prosciutto, Oak-Plank broiled Copper River Salmon,
Lobster with lemon butter, Angel hair pasta with Rock Shrimp,
Fresh Ahi tuna, and so on...
Man, I was hungry!

Then the Manager came over and told us:
"Here's your Menu- same thing that we offer the staff for their meal":

Hamburger
Hot Dog
Cheeseburger
Fries
Choose ONE (Fries were included though).

Unlimited Sodas or (1) Cocktail...

yeh, i hate when that happens. we just did a fancy gig - we got so excited when we saw a scallop bar! filet mignon! roasted veggies!

then we were escorted to the back for turkey sandwiches.

ah well, free food and a paycheck. can't complain, can we?

no really....can we???

No, it's rude. Unless you find a way to tastefully plug the food that the place serves. Which is pretty much impossible.

That cold stone is irresistable though.

My mix in includes: Sweet Cream, Graham Cracker Pie crust, Whipped cream (mixed in, because it volumizes the final product so much), and almonds..

Sorry for the disrailment...

We're a bunch of amateur hacks, and our "fee" is 1)whatever we drink (for me that's a single shot of Wild Turkey before the gig and a glass of club soda and lemon during) 2)a meal (either well before, or after ) and 3) a small donation to the charity of the band's choice. Tomorrow we're at the local golf club for a party and I'll arrive 90 min ahead of the sound check for a few ribs :-)))))

I like to squirrel away a sandwich in the back of my rack. Between songs I can claim that some incident requires my attention while the singer stalls the crowd. He tells an antidote...I get a quick pull on a roast beef on whole wheat...everybody wins.
