I'm constantly moving when I lead worship. Worship for me is not just stand there and play my part. The Holy Spirit Moves in all of me.

I also sing n the choir, and I'm always moving with the music, albeit differently.

Actually, last Sunday I got tapped to sing and play bass. it was sort of tough to head bang THAT Sunday *L*

to be sure, i tame my motions when i play at churches. out of respect. but considering that, i've still been asked by just about every church i play if i could stop moving so much, cuz it's distracting. only one church hasn't asked me to calm down because they understood that that meant i was getting into it, and it was becoming personal for me. just me and Jesus. like it should be.

in a related story, i did finally stop doing the bass soloes on the breakdowns. out of respect

I've semi-headbanged, mainly just moving to the music, though, as our worship team leader/rhythm guitarist says, we DO "melt some faces". Our version of "My Redeemer Lives" has some members of the congregation throwing in a "huh" at certain points. Our pastor is very supportive, and at times encourages us to me more energetic.

Little late reply..

Sorry about the insanely late response to this post. This question has been up my bum for quite some time and finnaly googled it lol. Ill just even when I'm up there on worship on bass or my eletric guitar I feel like I'm the only one moving, or more then my borothers and sisters lol. On again this Sunday for bass. I've never actual headbanged during church but I do a lot of dips to keep in touch with the kick and "bob" my head slightly lol. Had a short convo with one of the guys last night he said if you headbang during worship the devil will come and I just laughed. Not like your throwing horns or anything. Just google up this question and I laughed a bit lol. I'm still refraining my best from headbanging during worship lol. I just wanna hear its ok to go Flea style up their or Fieldy. Rofl.

"That's not head banging we are doing up there. That's the Holy Spirit taking over and and we also sometimes speak in tongues and I swear that is not backward masking on the first album."

Headbaning in church?

If what you're playing doesn't make you move you're either not playing it correctly or the song really sucks and you probably shouldn't be playing it anyway.

More seriously, I don't see anything wrong with bobbing your head to the groove, but I think that depending on the church (stick in the butt variety verses a church where people are encouraged to ENJOY their spirituality), feet spread wider than shoulders width while leaning forward doing heavy metal head spins at 180 BPM is probably a bit much. Bobbing your head as a guitarist or bass player is the equivalent of clapping to the beat with your hands full. Nothing wrong here.

"Make a joyful noise unto The Lord..." and all of that.

I'm pretty sure there's nothing inherently anti christian about headbanging. Although having too much fun in church could be shunned by some...
