Ever have a bar that double books you? What do you do? Give them a chance or view it as a sign of incompetence and poor business sense?

P.S. That avatar of yours is disturbing!

| | Yeah, I've got the moves like Jagger. | | Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: G.R. MI | | | It's never been an issue.
That being said, were it ever to happen it would be an issue.
Can you fill any open dates this may generate with little or no trouble?? If so, dump em. |

If another band is there this weekend, there isn't a lot you can do about it. If it's an important venue, don't burn any bridges. If you'll grow out of playing there in a year anyway, screw em. |

| | Bassists do it with 2 fingers...and a thumb | | Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: East Coast | | | happened to me in a previous band situation. We were booked at a club, but another band's website said THEY were booked the same night. It got rather tense. The band eventually rebooked the other group.
I wouldn't dump a club like that - some people are just incompetent. But I DO routinely check bar's websites to make sure we're listed, yes. |

| | Official Bass Player of the NY Giants Endorsing Artist: FBB Bass Works/Barker Bass | | Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Monroe Twp, NJ | | We call every joint a month in advance, and then a week in advance (just before we send out our e-mail notices) to be positive that there isn't any issue. Our very first date booked with this band was cancelled AFTER we sent out our mailing list notices due to a double booking, so we're now very careful
Some club owners are knuckleheads .... just as easy to double check and avoid any issues .... |

It's caused by mismanagment, i.e., more than one person is making booking decisions. I advise patience. Gigs can be scarce. Don't burn bridges.

| | | | We had this happen to our band because one of the bars owners simply didn't have the heart to say no to the other band. twice.
we always have a contract in place before we play ANYWHERE, and one of the stipulations is that in the case of cancellation or double booking, we receive 1/3 payment if notified within 7 days or full payment if not notified at all. |

Two days before the gig, we manage to find the bar manager again to confirm. Turns out they don't actually have a live music license, and that they've been told they probably shouldn't have live music play until they get one.
If a bar lacks the orginization to, you know, keep a book of the bands scheduled to play behind the bar, then, what the hell chance have they got at providing what we need to play a decent gig? |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Charlotte, NC | | | We have been double booked once in my current band. It was kind of the last straw with that club... We did not find out about it until we arrived at the club. We made it work with the other band and split the door equally (very slim pickin's that night).
The club hounded us for about 2 months to come back, we politely refused. They are now out of business.
In my opinion, double booking tells you a great deal of how the club does its business. I prefer to not conduct business with people or clubs that operate in that way. We treat it very, very seriously.
Dare I say contract? We had a contract with this club initially but after playing there 6 or 7 times it became more informal...
