Easy Songs to Cover

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi All,

A group of friends and I have just formed a band. None or us have a lot of experience or skill (most of us have only been playing for about 4 months).

For now we're looking to do covers, easy ones. Large range of musical interests in the band, from RATM to Kasabian and Radiohead. One of us likes Punk-Pop stuff, the other Indie and I'm more of an Alternative Rock sort of person.

So anything considered really, any easy covers?

Thanks

The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army.

Easy. Really easy. Mostly bass - and it's a song people hear on the radio so they might be impressed even though it's easy. Did I mention it's easy?

ACDC in generally is pretty easy for the bass... i dunno about the other guitar / drum parts haha guitar parts sound tricky like in thunderstruck haha...

Blow at High Dough by the tragically hip is pretty easy one...

You forgot Happy Birthday. Not the Stevie Wonder song - the other one.

I Can't Explain by the Who. Its incredibly easy, maybe doesn't fit your genre but its real easy and fun.

I think RATM is a good choice. Although some songs and parts are pretty complex at first, it's not too hard overall, and I found it good to help build a groove between the bass and drums. Some funky drumming, that is. It'll also get your guitarist to play a bit with effects.

Anything from ZZ Top, but your timing has to be metronome perfect for many of their hits. Some good examples are:

Sharp Dressed Man
Tush
Cheap Sunglasses
Legs

When I want to convince someone that they can play guitar - when they've never played one, that is - I have'em bar an open A-chord, and strum evenly (a little shuffle on it would be better, really), while I sing Hank Sr.'s Honkytonkin'.

"If you are sad and lonely
and have no place to go
just call me up sweet mama,
and braing along some dough,
and we'll go Honkytonkin' honkytonkin'
We'll go Honkytonkin' honkytonkin'
We'll go Honkytonkin' 'round this town!"

Yup. One chord. Yee-haw!

Bust out CD's by these bands for what I call "starter covers" (songs that every band I've been remotely involved with seemingly have gone into during one of the first three practices):

Green Day
NoFx
U2
Foo Fighters (Everlong comes to mind)
Nirvana
Weezer
No Doubt (kinda tricky bass parts but fun as hell to play)
Beatles (especially the 64-65 era stuff)
