Ever been happy to loose and band member?

One of our guitarists has just quit because he thinks hes not getting enough solo's and to be honest hes just lazy, despite the fact when we asked him to learn the solo for black sabbaths paranoid he said "ohh god thats easy" - the next week he comes in and gets the first bar right but just trys to improvise the rest hoping we wouldnt notice (his improvisation was terrible by the way he has no concept of timing)

We then fired him for not turning up to practice on time ect.. (and one gig breaking a string and not having any spares!) about 2 weeks later he pleaded with us to get back in and said he would be willing just to play rhythm guitar, I told him ok we'd try him about for a month to see if he could keep his word. This morning hes decided to quit... and i cant say how happy I am! - He didnt have a car so it usually meant either myself or the drummer had to pick him up, he was never out of bed when we went to the door and always left everyone to the last second.

Its just a weight off my shoulders, and we'll survive with one guitarist for now.

Anyone else been happy to see the back of a band member?

From my understanding, my last project was something no one was happy with. Frontman wasn't liked on a personal or musical level and the rest of the band was looking for excuses to quit without hurting his feelings. Around this time the singer decided to determine that the band had run its course and saved us the trouble.

So yeah, sounds familiar.

We had this drummer. We are all friends outside of the band. Nice enough guy. But, he lacked a certain "vigor" for what we do. Basically, he told us on several occasions he was only their for the money and wasn't into what we were doing at all. Now, I am not an advocate of playing for free or anything, but I LOVE to play music. When I am getting paid to play, I put to heart and soul into, even if its "brown eyed girl" for the millionth time. This guy is behind the kit, playing with one hand (back and forth between hi-hat and snare) and with the other hand, covering his mouth while he yawned. Or scratched his head. All while we're jumping around and getting into it with the crowd. Playing like we were all playing with a boat anchor around our necks. He never wanted to practice and would start whining at 9PM how he needed to get home. I understand if you have stuff going on, but he was like this at ever practice.

Fortunately, we were able to let him go in a civil manner so we are all still friends. We replaced him with a younger guy with not much experience and a lot of potential who really wants to pay his dues and get more real-world gigging experience. Plus, have fun playing music with guys who are now his friends, look at cute girls, and get paid for it Every gig we've done with him so far has been better than our best gig with the other guy. Enthusiasm makes a huge difference.

So yeah, I've been there.

Are you kidding? I thought everyone in a band enjoys playing with drunk drummers, egotistical singers and guitards and late or no shows for practices. Had my fill of them, and fortunately our band has a great bunch of people who are all on the same page.

The first singer my band had showed up to about 10% of our practices. At first I didn't even believe they had a singer at all, because he missed the first 4 practices I went to. When he finally manifested, I realized he just wasn't that good. He quit a couple practices later (which for him, was like two months). I was glad, to say the least.

many times: I even had to throw one, because I said: one has to go, he or me, and the band wanted to keep me, so I had to quit him. and other occasion , was my ex-gf, who was still in the band, no good, I tell ya... luckily she left on her own.

I'm very fortunate right now to be working with a bunch of folks that are great people (clean/drug free family minded folks). But in the past...oh yea...I've had to deal with drug addicts, egomaniacs, liars, lazy bums...you name it...
