Ever play in an MTV "Unplugged" type Enviorment ? There has been a few coffee houses that were darker and had candles burning that reminded me of an MTV unplugged since it was an acoustic gig.

i was ina band a few years ago that was fairly loud usually, but the singer has an amazing voice and it translated perfectly, if nto better to an acoustic setting...kind of reminded me of when alice in chains did the MTV unplugged...yes, my friend doug has layne staley type pipes!...(rip layne).

We do a few acoustic type tunes where everyone is seated, but no overstuffed couches or la-z-boys.

I used to do acoustic tunes with a couple of buddies -- guitar, mandolin, and me on bass. All three of us sang. Lots of fun.

I've played alot of these "unplugged" (they are rarely without amplification of some kind)types of gigs. They can alot of fun -if you don't do to many- and were a chance to bring out my vintage violabass, and/or my upright.

Candles, low light, and everyone sitting down can make for a nice relaxed environment, especially if your music is adaptable to that kind of vibe.

I've just done it once, with a band that was normally punkish, so it was a stab at something like Nirvana's MTV Unplugged set. It was fun, and some of the tunes may have been better in that format. The leaders of my current band are starting to do acoustic sets as a duo for promotion, and I may start joining them. Time to break out the fretless P!
