I think that's the "real" punk attitude, not being happy with the conditions in which you live, and making music about that.
I'm not as dumb as I look.

The punk movement lasted less than a year anyway, before it was retagged 'New Wave'.

It's all bollocks. I know, I was there '75/'76. Punk was an idea marketed to the kids by the very clever Malcolm McLaren to help sell clothes via Vivienne Westwood.

As Rotten remarked at the time: "Ever get the feeling you've been had?"

Class!!!!!!
That's what I always thought. Most of these "punk" bands are just playing no frills Rock & Roll. Some do it well, some are crap, just like any other R&R bands.

The best thing about punk is it broke the rock n roll free from the baby boomers who had tried to freeze it in time for 10+ years. It made kids realize that you didn't have to play like Clapton and be in a giant stadium to be in a rock and roll band. DIY is alive and well today and technologies have made new possibilities endless.

It did and I love it for that reason. That is the whole point of being an artist or an creative person in general, to break out of the rules that somebody laid down before you, that make no sense and are completely outgrown at a given moment. But then the problem starts when a bunch of phonies use that as a shield, as an opportunity to hide their lack of eloquence and talent. I think that is the thing that the OP is describing here...

Using the phrase "punk cred" is not punk.
