So after 10+ years of playing crappy bars and sparcely attended showcases, my newest band is starting to get some buzz behind it. We just finished (all by ourselves) our first album and have sent it off for the duplication, and have played one show in the Twin Cities at a fairly well know and respected venue (Station 4) and have gigs starting to roll in. We have a meeting with an agent set up for later this week, and the lead singers dad who happens to have way more money than most, is financially behind us. So my question to those who have been here before is....
What so we expect next, and what can we do as a band to get ready for the next big step?
Thankfully, most of us have very supportive wives and girlfriends, so that shouldn't (knocks on wood) be a problem, and none of us have a job that can't be dropped at any time. I'm trying to hold back being overconfident and overjoyed as I've heard the song and dance before and have had it blow up in my face, but this is the first time I truly feel that I have a chance to make it.
also, as I more than likley will be posting more, just know I'm a horrible speller and my grammer makes all my english major friends sick. |

There are no guarantees, especially in this business. For every band who might have a chance at making it, there are thousands of bands that don't.
Of course there are varying degrees of "making it". Anything from playing every weekend to small crowds, all the way to megabuck contracts with record labels, big tours at huge venues and selling tons of albums...er, CD's.
Whatever you feel is "making it", enjoy the ride!!! Just savor every moment of it. Like life itself, you never know when it'll be cut short. Give it your all and live it like today is the last day. That way, no matter what happens, you'll have thoroughly enjoyed this part of your life.
Good luck man!!!

I also want at least 1 tour across the country with my band. We all grew up together, and are good friends and the thought of us in some ratty old van crossing the country would be heaven to me. |

We never made it "big", but man, those experiences will last me the rest of my life.
And you'll find out who your "friends" truly are once you share a "ratty" van or bus together cross country for a long time. Kind of like not living with your girlfriend before you marry her. Once you get married and live with her, then you see what she's really like.
Be careful what you wish for...you just might get it.
Hope it all works out for you!

It's a time that you'll never have again. Sundogue is right. It's a time that, even if it isn't "the time", will be a learning experience that you'll never forget, will learn a lot from, and will stay with you for the rest of your life. Good luck!
