First time ever playing without a guarantee (and not making much!)

We booked a gig at a local club that we have played before. We took a chance and played without a guaranteed amount and made a whopping 41.00 each! We know that Saturday nights are not the best for club dates in this area. SEC football rules over everything! Hey, it was a paid pratice......

Gas money and some beer? Maybe a set of strings?

Personally I would rather get the $40 for a paid rehearsal playing in public than $0 just having a regular band rehearsal at our drummer's place.

Trying to find the positive.

I personally don't mind a low paying gig if they don't expect a load in and sound hours before I play.

I work hourly for a lot less than what I make "playing", but often once you factor in that extra time waiting around the bar it becomes much more unappealing.

Hummm...well at least you had a gig and made something. There are allot of guys hoping just to get gigs. I think speaking for myself and allot of others here, if you are in music for the money at the level we are at. You are in in for all the wrong reasons. Peace.

One band I was in years ago played for $20 each for the Friday and Saturday nights combined. Same band got paid a tray of draft at another (watering) hole.
The 'paid practice' angle wears thin after a while.
A lot of work for next to nothing.
