Fun Songs To Cover?

Sign in to disble this ad
We recently got our new band organized and the only thing we have left to do is pick out some songs and start playing. We're a 4 piece with two guitars (both capable of any lead parts), a bass, and drums. We're gonna be playing mostly pop rock covers in local bars. We want to do stuff thats well known but not overdone. Here are a few songs we've settled on to get us started so you guys have an idea of the kind of stuff we're wanting to play. I Come From The Water by the Toadies, Times Like These by the Foo Fighters, Dani California by RHCP, My Own Worst Enemy by Lit, and Two Princes by Spin Doctors. Do you guys have any ideas for cover songs that would fit in with what we're wanting to play?

Anything by G-Love (This Ain't Living is a good song). Sublime. (Badfish. Garden Grove. 40 Oz. To Freedom). Snoop Dogg (Think of Gin and Juice... It's only two chords crowds love it), Jack Johnson(could be good, but might be too mellow for your stuff). The Strokes. Kings of Leon. Artic Monkeys. Check out some older bands that might fit in too Buzzcocks. Pixies.

Good ideas...we've actually been working on a couple of Strokes songs and Sublime always goes over well at the bar.

The Speed Racer theme song. I believe that Sponge covered it on a compilation of Saturday morning cartoon songs. It's a ROCKIN' version. When we did it, the crowd started singing it.

Here's a link to the disk:

There's quite a few fun songs to cover on there.

Maybe you have never considered this but this really gets em going ... work up a few old skool R&B covers ... Sam & Dave, Otis Redding and even some Booker T & the MGs instrumentals (which can be fun to jam on) ... kinda puts people back in a campy "Blues Bros" vibe and I think everyone has seen that movie ... same with the "Speed Racer" theme puts people into a familiar comfort zone place.
