All you Cats with years of experience I envy. I just started learning to play beginning in March , and I am totally seeing how deep this can go....like forever ! Makes me remember my youth to play some Motown , Stax , British Invasion, Surf and on and on.Challenging your mind to learn something new is the best thing you can do for your brain and well being. Glad to geezer rock at 62. Whoops, i meant 39 years old with 23 years experience ( Jack Benny - Cheers.

Hey, there must be a Geezers club here - I was thinkin' you'd have to be at least 39 to be old enough to be those hot 21 year olds' father .

Many of the songs I play in my band I originally learned when they were new songs. Now, they are called classics or oldies.

Plus, I'm the young guy in my current band.

It's hard to believe that my first paying gig was almost 43 years ago when I was 13 years old.

Contrary to the Jethro Tull song, I'm not too old to rock and roll but I am too young to die.

Most of them died young.

Beethoven, 56. Mozart, 35. Brahms, 64. Bach, 65. Mahler, 51.

There are many more examples of genuises who died at an earlier age than I will (or probably you, too.)

Someone else mentioned this but I'm not sure what your point is. First, there was no definition what age constitutes a geezer, second since life expectancy was much lower hundreds of years ago, how do you factor that in?

I'm older, 59 however I don't consider myself a geezer.

Get off my lawn!

I am 54 but pass for much younger. After 25 years in financial services and IT I can walk into a club and speak to the owner/manager like a businessman and get gigs. I can afford all the toys. My kids are grown so no babysitters or girlfriend drama. This is better than it ever was.

Hopefully the club owner speaks and understands businessman talk.

If they run a successful club they do.

Still rocking at 54 what I have found is that I can learn to play a song in about 3 min. as for writing I write nearly every day I am in a Classic Rock cover band but I have 88 songs that I have finished between 2011-2012 We have always talked about putting some originals out and may be will next year.

Judging from the post count, the original poster couldn't keep up with the old folks.

Most of these young whipper-snappers can't hold a candle to us old guys!

Why should we quit when it's been made very clear in another thread that it's "The golden age of bass selection and mass availability."

All that crappy equipment we bought decades ago helped build the companies that sell us some good gear now and at better prices.

I admit it was a blatant act of selfishness , but should we just meagerly bow out and wither away?

Some day the youngsters will be in their golden years, (Maybe) and they'll get up and get a Starbucks Coffee out of the replicator, go into the holideck and simulate the popping and slapping of their youth.

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I started noticing arthritis kicking me in the butt about ten years ago. Pretty much took me out of the game. The thing was, its wasn't pain in my hands, as I feared, but damage to my neck and shoulders that makes it hard to play.

I'm in my early 50s, playing originals with a band (Dick Venom & The Terrortones) all 20-30 years younger than me. I've never had more fun, been more busy and creative or earned more money playing music than right now.

Not true.

BTW, I'll turn 60 next month. I'm not an old guy, I'm an older guy, big difference.
