Youth is wasted on the young. I'm 52, playing and singing better than I ever have. What's changed is that the rock end of the music scene is all about youth and image. Trying to get your point across to an audience younger than my children is tough. Most people our age (read: our demographic) don't go out, still like what they liked when they were younger and unless something is already a radio hit, they don't want to give it a chance.

I haven't changed... My audience has.

Speaking of Geezer stuff:
We were playing at a bar last summer. I think we were playing "Honky Tonk Women" or something close to that. This smoking hot young blonde was really shaking it up directly in front of me on the dance floor. When the song was over she looked right at me and said, "I just love dancing to this Geezer Rock." Whoooa, that was the first time I had heard the term "Geezer Rock." It was also the first time I have ever felt really old playing on a stage. Just sayin.

I wrote down a song yesterday but I couldn't remember where I put it. When I found it I didnt remember writing it. When I tried to play it the paper cut my lip so I gave it to a friend of mine to play. He cut his lip to. He said it had to many sharps. So I re-wrote it in 2 flats, now I cant remember which one I left it in.

Old Geezers have a difficult time getting young women. I know, I tried. Last week I was at a restaurant eating dinner when I saw a pretty young thing sitting alone at another table. I asked if I could join her and she said yes. We talked for about a half hour and things were going well. I figured I had nothing to loose and wanted to see if she would give me a date. She did......August 8th, 2024. I said "why then?" She said she needed time to think about it.
I told her by then I'll be 75. She said "dont worry, by then I'll be 18."

Age is only a number and when that number is up....................I cant remember how the rest of it goes..

True, 59 here.

I think when it comes to BS and drama, you have to go through it to get to it.

Many times I will read threads about some of the nonsensical BS and drama younger TBers go through in bands. I usually end up scratching my head wondering how they got involved with this nonsense.

Then I realized the same things happened to me when I was young.

A lot of us older TBers can spot nonsense a mile away.

59 , I date primarily women that are significantly younger than me. Mostly unsuccessful dating.

Thing is, no woman my age would have anything to do with me.

What's the deal? Some people (not pointing out anyone in particular, Blue ) hint that age effects the ability to write and/or perform music. Do any of you experienced, matured TB'ers find this to be true? If so, what was the first thing to tarnish and how old were you when you realized it?

Jazz pianist Ubie Blake died in recent times aged 96. The cat was still gigging.

60 here. Playing as much as my schedule allows, which is one or two gigs a month since I'm still workin' hard at my day job too. But it's going real well, certainly better than at 40 or even 50 when the kids had to take priority and it was very difficult to put musical projects together. It helps to double on upright as I get calls now for everything from jazz to bluegrass on upright, while playing in two bands on bass guitar.

What strikes me about all these 'old guy' threads here and all the age requirements you see in CL ads is that it wasn't like that when I was 20.

Well, we could have been actually but it didn't seem that way to us. My college band employed a 45 year old bass player because he was solid and we liked him, we never thought twice about 'geezer' BS or anything like that. In fact it was his girlfriend that made him quit us, saying he shouldn't be wasting his time with a bunch of kids.

I am always on the wrong side of this generational stuff. I grew up when it was cool to be prude too...

I love my band mates. 2 are 30 and the drummer of 40. Some of the coolest people I know and years of experience musically. Plus no drama or egos. The 30 year olds can still be a little wild. But that's fine with me. I'm 24 and loving my band.

Disclaimer: I know 40 isn't geezer age. Or even old for that matter. But I don't see anything wrong with older musicians. All you can do is learn right?

What everyone learns eventually is that no matter what age you are, you are still 'you.' Just like you are the same guy you were at 14, you will be at 40. You just have a few more experiences to draw on and have a better sense of trouble; having already taken a few wrong turns.

Yup, I just highlighted that to agree.

After awhile you find out that what we think of as old is largely a state of mind caused by a lack of new experiences. It is simply letting life get stale.

The problem is that new experiences are much harder to come by at 50 than at 5.

Time drags when you are young and flies when you are old for these reasons. When you have a million new things to do and see, time can't move fast enough for you. And vice versa...

A guy called Andy Hamilton (sax player) who my Dad knew well just died over here a few months back. 93, still gigging the week that he passed.

And my Dad was gigging on drums until his mid to late seventies.
