My high school is starting a rock band project this month. Basically we'll be divided into groups and be given a practice space where we can work on musicianship/being in a band, and have a chance to perform at the school.
The band that I'll probably (almost definitely; I'm the only bass player there who actually plays bass) be put in will consist of two guitars, drums, vox (who can play keys) and bass. We're interest mainly in the blues-rock genre, Led Zeppelin, Queens of the Stoneage, that general vibe. Does your band cover and songs like this? I'd love to hear some suggestions! Basically, the heavier the better, and anything with a killer bass-line (on a selfish note, haha).
That was totally incoherent, but anyway...
Thanks!
Connor

Maybe you can retrofit another lyric or mumble. It's certainly one of the best JPJ bass vehicles, and very coverable.
Cream is another good source of structurally simple, jammable material in a similar vein.

Maybe a few classic things but I bet the kids at school would dig hearing some things from their generation. |

-NT | Thanks man! Been listening to Led Zeppelin II a lot recently; some great songs on there.
I totally forgot about Cream! Thank you!

You never go wrong with a Jimi Hendrix cover. My old band did Hey Joe, Purple Haze, and Red House. All of them always went over well.
Some other suggestions;
Bad Luck- Social Distortion
Lowlife- Theory Of A Deadman (but you'll have to edit it some)
Cumbersome- Seven Mary Three
Here's one that's really cool, don't know if you could do it at school. Bassline is like, super-simple. Plus the guitarist can go absolutely insane doing virtually whatever makes him happy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShWQzQuZmB4
Good luck!!!

Then check out this list: I Don't Need No Doctor - Humble Pie Mississippi Queen - Mountain Funk #49 - James Gang
OK, drummer has no cowbell but does keep good time?
Hard to go wrong with this one: I'll Be Creepin'

And while QOTSA are an awesome band I don't know if I would consider them blues based.

Easy enough for everyone to pick up quickly (A-D-E)
and enough room for everyone to "jam" a bit. |

| | | | Anything by Cream is good to jam to.
Led Zep is also good, but you need a good drummer and bassist to really make it groove.
Any blues number can also be jammed to because they're usually easy chord progressions... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
