They are twice my age and play shows at bars

What do you think, I can definitely keep up cause it's punk but 32 year olds and 1 16 year old thats a bit odd maybe?

Dont let the age difference bother you. If you like the music go for it. It will at the very least be a learning experience for you and a chance to get some gigs under your belt. Even if its just a bar gig it will give you a chance to get better at your craft. I remember playing crappy bar gigs for $50.00 a man and also great bar gigs that didn't pay much more than that but were still fun.

Do it, gain stage experience and have fun!

It's not like you sign a contract to stick to the band for life (altough dental insurance can come in handy)

+ if you ever get into trouble, you'll have 32 old punk's backing you up

+1. 32 year old punks.

I mean as long as you're fine with it, and your parents don't mind, I don't see a problem. You may not be able to get into some bar gigs, I dunno. That's the only problem. But I'm sure some of the audience will think it's sweet that they've got a kid on the bass.

If you like the music, and they can get you into the bars go for it...

Bars don't pay great (maybe $80 a man), but when I was 16 that would have made a big difference. If you're still in school then turning up Monday morning with cash in your pocket, and some stories to tell the other kids about... Sounds pretty cool to me.

Do it. There may be some rough times, but when you are 32 you will be very glad you did it.

Screw it I think I'll take it, now to be good enough for people playing 15 years professionally. I'm tired of regretting decisions and i think this would be awesome.

Aren't you the same guy who had a problem two months ago about joining a band with a 30 something drummer? Is there a trend happening here?

Do it man. That sounds like you'd have a great time. You may have issues getting in to some bars but you can get permission from the liquor inspector if you need too. I played in a band where the singer was 17 and the rest of us were 20 - 25. Most bars just said she can sing but she can't come in before and she can't stay after but once in a while they just said F it and let her hang out in the bar as long as she wasn't trying to sneak drinks. You wouldn't try to sneak drinks would you? Of course not, a 16 year old would never do such a thing. The odd place we did needed to get permission though.

Do it! You can learn alot from being in a band with experienced musicians. If you can connect well age wont matter anyway. Go out there and have fun!

I auditioned for a punk band about 5 years ago ... I started to get bored during the audition and just started really playing fast ... the idiots thought I was a virtuouso ... needless to say I didn't join the band ... Punk and Metal bands love my aggressive playing and nasty tone but I simply find most of that music boring.

If you do join don't be overwhelmed ... the music business can suck you in chew you up and spit you out ... The real money in music is quite often made by people who never play a single note.

most musicians need a good day job to keep from being poor.

Good luck and make wise decisions.

There's a localish band around here, the guy used to hang out with G.G. Allen back in the day. Anyway, mostly old dudes and then some teenager on bass. I think it's awesome. And from my experience around here at least, they might kick you out after you get off stage, but bars will usually let you in if you're playing.

That might vary heavily from location to location though.

Punk is one of the few genres I think you can get away with having some really odd ball looking band lineups. No reason not to go for it, it sounds like, unless your parents have some objections and you're still living at home.

We went out on a date Saturday night to see S.C.O.T.S. The 2nd act was Elvis' old band (guys in their 70's), and a really young guy on bass.

They SMOKED!!!

And no one cared how old they were...or how young.

Absolutely no one.

If you can take the gigs, go for it!
