So my band has a show on saturday....we've known about this show a couple months in advance and had plenty of time to clear space for it.....but of course the one guitard in my band decides that he isnt gonna tell his baseball coach he has a show on saturday and decides to play his baseball game instead of our show. HOW LAME IS THAT! he had plenty of time to tell his coach that he would not be able to make one stinkin game. but no he decides to wait until today to tell us he isnt gonna be coming and gives us today and tommorow to get ready. haha isnt that funny SOMEONE STOP ME FROM MURDERING HIM!

I'd throw his ass out. Obviously he neither has any sense of commitment to the band, or you personally, and is probably likely to pull this again. He's obviously not mature enough to handle telling people no, while waiting for better things to come along.

Give him the boot.

if this would happen to me by my guitar player, well...
either I'd kick the band or him, physically. but I'm sensitive at this point. so please don't see this as an advice

Hell, fire his ass right now, and play with an octave pedal.

haha i would really like to kick him out after this one but he actually is a very good guitarist and by good i mean he can wank pretty excellently and nothing else....when we arent playing in between songs and trying to talk about things he is always noodling with his distortion and talkbox so we cant hear eachother he does piss me off so much. it woulld be hard to find a replacement tho although i will be on the look out

Slightly similar, but less annoying thing happening with our band right now.

We've got a gig next month, one that has been sitting organised for about 3 months. First gig in ages (uni has been in the way). Drummer turns around last week to tell us he is working that day. Same drummer who had said multiple times "Nah, it is cool, I wouldn't be working that day, I can manage that easy". Granted work comes first, but he has known about it for ages, just grates.

Fire him. He is not a guitarist he is a guy that owns a guitar. Band members always put the gig first, other stuff second, especially if this is a gig everybody knew of in advance.

Good guitar players are a dime a dozen. Dump him. Find someone commited.

Similar thing happend to me. We were about to set up our gear for a show one night when my cell phone went off. I got a message from my vocalist saying "im at the train station i bought a ticket im going home". So as we were unloading he saunterd off and left and then text messaged me. So we got in the van tracked his behind down and talked some sense into him. Then we played, and it turned out to be a really good gig. He's a runaway bride

I don't get it. You just listed two more reasons to give him the boot, and you're still not going to?

i just talked to the other people in my band tonight and i said

Me: "if we can find someone better im serious about giving him the boot, you don't do that to your friends and bandmates you just don't"
Them: "We're def. gonna talk to him but im not sure we should kick him out unless he is gonna do this all the time"
Me: "ehhhh...."
