My friend plays bass in a local band. They have a pratice studio and split the rent. For a month he has noticed the settings on his amp were changed. He thought that the drummer was messing with him.
Last night he went to the pratice studio when they didnt have pratice. He walks in to find another band playing in there. They also had about 10 other people in there with them drinking and smoking.....well you know what they were smoking.
So he is going to call the police because obviously they have broken in right? Wrong!!!!!!
It seems that the guitar player has been letting them use the pratice studio and the gear. He gave them a key and has been charging them rent.
So everything blows up and the other band members go to the pratice space. No one knew about it except the guitar player.
My friend is going crazy because he now has cigarette burns on his 6 month old fender bassman 300 head and he does not even smoke.
Has something like this ever happened to any of you? What did you do? Should the take the guitar player's right or left hand?
Guitar player says he has a right to let someone use the space because he pays part of the rent. |

However now they have the problem of the other band. They say they paid the guitar player 2 months in advance. |

Change the locks or remove the gear.

As for the other band? that's their money lost. Tough. There is no obligation to them, apart from the guitarist's, to pay them back (and to replace the Fender amp).

its bogus on so many levels- he's renting out stuff that isnt his to people that don't respect equipment (who puts their cigarette out on the bass amp?!), and he's getting money for it and not telling you guys or sharing the profits?!
wow. don't just break his hands. break each and every individual bone in his fingers, one by one. and charge him money for it. |

lease lease lease....contract contract contract!!!!!! it protects everyone!
the amp should be repaired or replaced by the offending party..... or the pre-paid rent should be used for the fix.....
this would never happen to me..... and if it did.... i would not make it public..... i would make it right!!!! im no tough guy.... but this would give me every reason to try that hat on!!!!
edit.... TAKE PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The guitar player says he will not pay because the amp still plays. The guitar player also told the bass player that you cant expect your amp to stay new forever. |

The fired guitar player owes the other band their money back. I wish them luck trying to collect. The fired guitar player owes the bassist some money for damage to his head. Again, I wish him luck trying to collect.
I feel sorry for the remaining band members. It's too bad stuff like this happens. Unfortunately, bad word of mouth is the worst damage they are legally entitled to inflict upon the fired guitarist. Unless they want to take him to People's Court or something. |

Then he will require more than a "kick in the pants", if you get what i'm sayin' .
Sorry bud, If that were to happen to any group i play with, past or present, fist of all we'd grab him by his ankles and shake all the money out of his trousers, then take turns "going to work on him"....And once finished, banish him and tell him that he's better thank god to be walking away.
Self respect is always first, followed by Respecting others and their property. He obviously has no concept, time to teach him the hard way, however you handle it.
