Haveing/Getting a Manager

So the band I'm in has just formed and done 3 gigs, on the 2nd we got a manager offer, on the 3rd we got my mum isn't keen on the idea, and thinks that the manager is just out to make money, then just said no(I'm 15). a manager. After talking to the manager after we played I'm am 100% sure that this is not true. Karen (manager) is or has been the manager for a lot of the local bands. The main band she manages needs a good support band, thats why she has asked us.

Whats everyone elses thoughts on this. A manager is just what we need to get gigs etc.

Of course a manager is only out to make money - that's what they're supposed to do. What do you think she's going to do? Sing backing vocals?

The question is how much of that money they make goes to you and how much goes to them? Why do you think a manager is "just what you need to get gigs"? Are you incapable of using a phone? Chances are if you're just starting out then a manager won't be doing much more than you could do yourself, and taking a cut of the revenue (I was about to say profit, but it's a cut of revenue - you're still stuck with the full costs). A the point where keeping track of the bands admin is a big job, THEN you need a manager - until then you can do it yourself.

What it comes down to is if
Band Revenue With Manager - Manger's Cut > Band Revenue without Manager
then it's worth it.

We "need a manager" becuase we wouldn't be able to get gigs other wise. we don't live in the city, so we have no contacts.

We wont be making much money, maybe max of 300, she only gets 10%.

as we are just starting out, we need to get gigs often before we make contacts.
