In spite of that, I have enough young guy in me that I would never join a band for any reason if they had a name that I thought was too painfully stupid to bear. The name of that band is one of those for me. If for some reason I was an unknown and late to the party I might bring it up in the interview process, or later ask if they thought of name changes, but other than that forget it, regardless of the pain. Afterall, I joined, right?

The insect-like name was important to them as they really like Buddy Holly, so I'd say no.

I thought that maybe the change in spelling meant that they noticed the "Beat-less" thing and took "The Beatles" as a little in-joke.

Either way, it stands that with the addition of a single letter their name becomes "The Beatless" which may or may not have been intentional, and we'll never know either way, right? And this is pretty removed from the OP's post, now...

| | Nope! | | | | | Band name is such a game changer for me... If you don't like the name, and they don't seem willing to change it (change it completely, for God's sake), don't invest any more time into this band. Your band name is the first thing people are going to see, and if they think it's stupid, the group will go nowhere. |

Local act "Yogi and the Boo-Booze garnered the attention of the Hollywood studio that owns Yogi Bear, so to avoid lawyers fees, they changed their name to Boogie and the Yo-Yo's. (And got lots of free publicity during the process as well.)
