Our lead guitarist didn't show up at practice today and didnt ask, so the rhythm and I got to talk with out drummer about kicking out the lead. We then continued to have practice sounding better and tighter than we ever did (even with the now ex-rhythm playing the lead guitar parts) We are currently thinking up a new band name to go with the new lineup.
I was too lazy to record practice so new clips will have to wait, but heres a list of pros that are already taking place:
1. no more extreme arrogance is found within the band
2. more room to practice since an amp will be gone
3. our only guitarist gets to crank the presence on his amp, and has a much better tone. also, no more boost pedal...which means a wah can fit on his pedalboard!
4. the solos (although not refined yet) already sound and feel much better
5. no more timing issues! we sound very tight and together.
6. I can hear myself better
7. we all hear vocals better
8. less gear to help carry on stage
9. one less work schedule to work around, which means more practice, which means more work done.
10. I think I'll leave it at that. |

still working on getting vocals and solos a lot better, but the guitarist is willing so I don't think it will take two long. the rhythm and timing is a lot better now.

The single best thing that you could do to tighten up would be to have the drummer practice to a metronome or click. |

So, while the pill is bitter, it is useful - please try to keep this in mind.
I have gone through the entire thread and listened to all the posted tracks and while the last one might be a bit better than the earlier ones, it just isn't there.
You guys need to woodshed as a band and get things right. |

Each member would also be well served to practice at home along with a click track or metronome. |

Doesn't matter the genre, just so long as its got guitar, bass, and drums. Open your ears, and your mind, and really listen. Why is this song good? Why is this song on the radio? Listen to a band that has a famous bassist. What is that bassist playing that makes people like them so much? Same with guitar and drums. Rush has a fan club for every individual member. What is it about each member of that band that makes people covet them so much? Look at famous singers. What do they all have in common? What are some things they do that are.unique? You should start schooling yourself on music, asking questions like that. Learning covers is a great idea. Especially if you aim to make your band sound exactly like the song on the album. If you play a song, and something didn't sound exactly right, go back and fix it.until it sounds note for note exactly right. That kind of stuff will force you to learn timing, and feel. It'll make all your band members learn how to read each other, and feel out things like time changes, starts and stops, and make your whole band sound a lot better.

But for the rest I think it kind of rocked!
Sure not supertight, but the flow was there I think.
I kind of liked the solo, even though there are also plenty of flaky notes. But the vibe was right!
Rock on! |

Improve yourself (which you should be doing anyway)
until you find better. Go to open mics, jams, anything to meet new musicians. |

In music it comes w time so I say less time dreaming and more time learning. There's no welfare entitlement handouts for musicians fortunately. You have to pay dues and earn it.
