I don't know about you, but we have been playing together for 13 years. All that matters is... did it rock?... did we have fun. We are gigging more than ever and by the end of the second set and certainly by the third, some members are hammered. I can't say I'm happy about that, but we still manage to get the people on their feet. To answer your question, I accept with humor and joy. The joy is that we get to do this at all. I guess, I am very lucky because I have always played with good friends. So maybe I can't speak on the subject.

Good luck with your band

last time i was in a band with a mate who was incompetent on stage, i quit after that show.

yeah, it had been a long time coming, but if he wasn't such an idiot onstage that night, maybe things would have been different.

Never had to. I won't be in a band with incompetent people. Life's too short for that kind of frustration.

With the good humour and tollerance with which they have to accept my incompetence.

I would like our drummer to stop dropping his sticks though... One gig he dropped his sticks four times in the first song. He keeps a whole load of spares, but ran out, and was trying to play with one hand, while scambling round on the floor to try and find a second stick.

Not quite as fun as the time he spilled beer over his kit. Every time he hit a drum there was a huge spray up in the air - like an 80's rock video! Looked REALLY cool, but he refused to pour beer over his kit on subsequent shows...

It amazes me how the song can be played correctly or without major blemishes in practice but the live take is too much for some to handle.

Ignore them, rock out, and deal with it later?

I don't think there's incompetence, but there are dumb mistakes sometimes. It's rewarded with a "***" look or a laugh or both.

I just joined a band, and evidently, the guitarist's method for "psyching himself up", is to drink some booze. I'm not even sure if he's 21 yet...either way, when we gig, I'm totally telling him, that's a big no-no.

Incompetence is different than mistakes.

If you mean mistakes....one time I had a bandmate tell me that he was going to keep a list of my mistakes. I said "that's fine as long as we keep a list of everybody's mistakes including his."

Funny, I never saw the list.

If they show up on time, know the material and are decent people it means a LOT more than CHOPS to me. I can live with mistakes.

I do this as long as I can have fun with it......if it ceases to be fun, well......

Oh, man. When you are as old as I am and been doing it this long...you just roll with it. Incompetence wears many faces at any moment.
