I am looking for a new band and have had some opportunities but they are quite a ways away. How far do/would you all drive? |

If gigging was my only job, then I would go wherever work takes me.

It's all about what's comfortable (and affordable) for you though.

I really like the gig.

| | | | everyone in our band drives about 30mins to practice/rehearse. It's right in the middle of all of us. The best part is...it's called middletown where we play!
I think how far you drive is directly relative to your situation. The fact that you asked this question means you already know the answer. Did that blow your mind? |

About an hour would probably be my max, and it would have to be a financially viable project. The only reason I'm driving this far now is that I like the band's format, and the potential for well paying gigs seems good, so far.

What is a mite stranger is that I'm going to jam with a band on sunday that is about an hour drive away from home. Just once I'd like someone to come to me for a change.

as far as gigs - well, a few weeks ago, we drove for 6 hours to play a 15 min. showcase, then got right back in the van, drove another 6 hours straight to a 4-hour, 3-set gig.
but we've got a good thing going, band-wise, so i'd pretty much do anything at this point, especially if it meant gigs on the west coast....

However...
Unless the band is, like, my dream band with just the perfect situation, yada yada, I won't drive more than 45 minutes to practice. Heck...for me to drive more than 30 minutes, it has to be so ideal that my fairy godmother would have had to put the band together.
Distance is irrelevant. You can get far in 45 minutes if you're not driving into the city. If you are driving into town, 45 minutes from my house is about 25 miles.
For me, its all about time. For me to drive more than a few minutes to practice, it has to be worth the extra time. If it ain't, I ain't goin'.

You just pick the one that you can walk to. If you are scuffling to get opportunities to play, then do you really want to turn one down?
