How to go about getting booked?

I'm in a band in the making. For future reference, i'd like to know how to go about getting booked. What places should i target to get booked at?

Also, i am in a business class and i'd like to know how much your band makes per gig? Google only brings up how much big artists make.

Ha, you are asking the wrong people. This REALLY depends 100% on your area, find out places that have bands and ask if you can play. Have a demo if possible.

What you get paid is not up to you until you are an established act.

Also, covers vs. originals, that is a big thing. If you are playing covers, you should make an OK amount of money for your first show... emphasis on OK (but still, varies on the area). If you make original music, be prepared for your first few shows to be without pay. Also, if you make original music, try to find local acts with a somewhat similar sound and try to open for them.

Where do you want to play? Clubs, weddings, corporate gigs, etc?
What's your song list? Have the band members gigged before?

What age group are the band members in? If you're under 21, then you're possibly limited.

find some of your local bands' websites. they should have some show listings, check where they are playing. myspace is a great tool.

Get a nice promo package made up and seek a manager. Let them do the work for you.
