how long did it take to put your band together?

Well after about 3 months of trying to put a band together, I may be back to square 1.

The drummer and I connect really well, no issues there.

We've had a few guitarists come and go, nothing really gelled and one stopped showing up. The other guitarist is getting annoyed with not moving forward and is starting to look elsewhere.

I took on a project as a lead singer, but after 3 months I unfortunately had to let her go. Great person, couldn't sing well. I may have another possibility though. Everyone thinks they can sing, but most can't. And if they can sing, stage presence is another issue.

I actuall found myself applying for an open position yesterday.

So how long from start to playing with a solid lineup for awhile did it take you to start your band? Is 3 months too long to only have found a drummer or should I keep looking?

No, 3 months is not a long time in general. I've known guys who took much longer than that to get a decent band together.

My classic rock group came together lightening quick. I was referred to the drummer the 2nd week of August in 2006, we hooked up with the guitar player the following week, cut our first studio demo on August 29th, played our first gig Labor Day weekend, and by the start of October we were gigging 6-8 times a month

But we're all very experienced (in other words, old ) and we have a ton of contacts, so getting gigs has been easy for us. And we are a cover band of '60's, '70's, and '80's tunes, so it's not brain surgury.

My funk/fusion band has taken longer to get cooking, minimum 3 months of weekly rehearsals before we booked the first gig, and it's hard getting much more than 1 job a month. But all of the guys work in other bands, so there isn't as much pressure to book new work ......

My band was ready to go in three months. Of course the progenitor of the band was a guitar player that quit another band we were in and took me along with him so we had a head start. What's the name of the band you applied for??

I'd seen that guys E-Mail before, I kinda figured they were already established. If it works out, be sure to let me know where you're playing!

Grand Rapids is a pretty good sized city. You should be able to put something together with all the musicians in that area, I would think.
